In a two-year longitudinal study, a two-stage screening procedure was used to identify subjects in primary care with emotional disorder presenting with a recent onset of physical symptoms and a comparison sample of patients presenting with physical symptoms only. Time-limited (12 sessions) group psychotherapy was provided for 14 patients with a variety of serious medical illnesses. All patients were referred for psychiatric assistance and most had minimal or no psychiatric disorder. The psychiatric morbidity among 718 Chinese primary school children from a lower middle social class area in Hong Kong was studied, using a two-stage design. In the following, the findings from a field study on the reliability of ICD-10 for classifying psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents are presented. Many conditions in clinical neurology may be responsive to pyridoxine as a therapeutic agent. The current difficulty is in trying to isolate the conditions that are most likely to respond. Treating seizures is a major part of a neurologic practice. Our current therapeutic agents are only partially successful and limited by multiple side effects. The data of all first born or only children seen at the department of child and adolescent psychiatry at a university hospital from 1978-84 were analyzed according to maternal age at birth of the patient. This paper describes clinical and demographic characteristics of 664 children who attended outpatient child psychiatry clinics in Perth, Western Australia, over a one-year period.
