Barriers and facilitators to detoxification from opioid substitution treatment: A mixed-methods systematic review.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Despite the well-documented benefits of opioid substitution treatment (OST) in treating opioid dependence (OD), many people diagnosed with OD desire to live a drug-free life. The transition to abstinence involves detoxification: a gradual dose reduction of OST to zero milligrams. Despite these aspirations, only a minority of patients undertake detoxification, and successful completion remains limited. This mixed-methods systematic review aimed to identify the barriers and facilitators to detoxification from OST, to help provide a better understanding of what can be done to

Behavior change techniques in a care partner-assisted oral health intervention for people with mild dementia: a secondary mixed-methods analysis.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Oral hygiene declines early in mild dementia (MD), yet few interventions specify which behavior change techniques (BCTs) drive improvement. We examined the use of BCTs in relation to oral health outcomes in a care-partner-assisted intervention for persons living with MD. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: Using a secondary convergent mixed-methods design, we analyzed the coaching arm of a three-arm randomized trial. Seventeen dyads (persons living with MD-care partners) completed four coaching sessions (68 coaching session transcripts). Seventeen BCTs were specified for u

Medical provider perspectives on children with incarcerated parents: A mixed-methods study.

PURPOSE: To understand health care providers' perceptions, clinical considerations, and clinical actions towards children with incarcerated parents. METHODS: We implemented an experimental vignette study in which health care provider participants were randomly assigned a patient case describing a child with a parent absent for unspecified reasons (control) vs. incarceration (experimental). Participants completed a survey of closed- and open-ended items regarding their clinical approach. Groups were compared with chi-square and ANOVA. Qualitative data were analyzed inductively. RESULTS: Medic

Digital Interventions to Enhance Readiness for Psychological Therapy: Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Psychological therapy is an effective treatment method for mental illness; however, many people with mental illness do not seek treatment or drop out of treatment early. Increasing client uptake and engagement in therapy is key to addressing the escalating global problem of mental illness. Attitudinal barriers, such as a lack of motivation, are a leading cause of low engagement in therapy. Digital interventions to increase motivation and readiness for change hold promise as accessible and scalable solutions; however, little is known about the range of interventions being used and t

Evaluation of the Use of Digital Mental Health Platforms and Interventions: Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: The increasing use of digital mental health (DMH) platforms and digital mental health interventions (DMHIs) is hindered by uncertainty over effectiveness, quality and usability. There is a need to identify the types of available evidence in this domain. AIM: This study is a scoping review identifying evaluation of the (1) DMH platform/s used; and (2) DMHI/s applied on the DMH platform/s. METHODS: The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) guided the review process. Empirical studies that focused on evaluation

Using Open Questions to Understand 650 People's Experiences With Antipsychotic Drugs.

Studies of antipsychotic medication, which are increasingly prescribed for a broad range of problems and circumstances, rarely ask the people who take them to describe their experiences with the drugs. In this study, 650 people, from 29 countries, responded, in an online survey, to "Overall in my life antipsychotic medications have been _____?" and "Is there anything else you would like to say, or emphasise, about your experiences with antipsychotic drugs?" Of the total participants, 14.3% were categorized as reporting purely positive experiences, 27.9% had mixed experiences, and 57.7% reporte

Does CBT for anxiety-related disorders alter suicidal ideation? Findings from a naturalistic sample.

BACKGROUND: Anxiety disorders commonly co-occur with suicidal ideation (SI). To our knowledge, no studies have reported on the baseline prevalence of SI and the reduction in SI in a naturalistic sample receiving cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) for anxiety-related disorders. METHODS: Participants (n = 355) recruited from an anxiety specialty clinic reported SI at pre-, mid-, and post-CBT. Multilevel mixed effects logistic regression models compared differences in SI endorsement over Time. RESULTS: Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and social anxiety disorder (SAD) were associated with sig

The role of emotion in clinical decision making: an integrative literature review.

BACKGROUND: Traditionally, clinical decision making has been perceived as a purely rational and cognitive process. Recently, a number of authors have linked emotional intelligence (EI) to clinical decision making (CDM) and calls have been made for an increased focus on EI skills for clinicians. The objective of this integrative literature review was to identify and synthesise the empirical evidence for a role of emotion in CDM. METHODS: A systematic search of the bibliographic databases PubMed, PsychINFO, and CINAHL (EBSCO) was conducted to identify empirical studies of clinician populations.

Keywords were mixed or mixed state or mixed features or mixed episode and anxious or anxiety or agitation and bipolar disorder or depressive disorder or mood disorder or affective disorder.
