An Eu4L44 tetrahedron with multiple recognition sites: a luminescent sensor for rapid and sensitive detection of biogenic amines.

Biogenic amines are important bioactive substances in living organisms, and their abnormal metabolism can serve as biomarkers for certain diseases such as depression, Parkinson's disease and transient tic disorder. Therefore, developing a highly efficient and sensitive luminescent sensor for biogenic amines is essential. However, the biological system is a complex liquid environment containing multiple active substances, which can reduce effective collisions between the sensor and the target analyte, thereby diminishing the sensor's sensitivity. To address this issue, we introduced reaction si

Case report: Whole exome sequencing reveals a novel splicing variant of ANKRD17 gene in a Chinese male juvenile with developmental delay and transient tic disorder.

BACKGROUND: The Ankyrin Repeat Domain Containing Protein 17 (ANKRD17, OMIM:615929) gene is a protein-coding gene associated with diseases such as Chopra-Amiel-Gordon Syndrome and Non-Specific Syndromic Intellectual Disability. The protein encoded by ANKRD17 gene belongs to the ankyrin repeat-containing protein family, which is one of the most widely existing protein domains that exclusively mediate protein-protein interactions. To date, the research and reports on the ANKRD17 gene are limited. CASE PRESENTATION: Trio whole exome sequencing (Trio-WES) was conducted on the proband and his unaff

Diagnostic Hierarchy of Tic Disorders in Real-World Clinical Practice.

OBJECTIVES: According to the 10th revision of the International Classification of Diseases, the main categories of tic disorders (F95.0, F95.1, and F95.2) follow a diagnostic hierarchy based on the duration and diversity of tic symptoms. The present study investigated the use of this diagnostic hierarchy in real-world clinical practice. METHODS: Based on the National Health Insurance Service-National Health Information Database, the diagnosis of transient tic disorder (F95.0) made after a diagnosis of chronic motor or vocal tic disorder (F95.1) or Tourette's syndrome (F95.2) and diagnosis of

The Prevalence and Comorbidity of Tic Disorders and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder in Chinese School Students Aged 6-16: A National Survey.

Background: Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and tic disorders (TDs) are closely related and considered to etiologically overlap. Both disorders are characterized by repetitive behaviors. TD and OCD often co-occur. The high comorbidity between OCD and TD individuals suggests that we also need to pay more attention to the homogeneity and heterogeneity between TS and OCD. To date, there has been no systematic nationwide epidemiological survey of the mental health (including tic disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder) of children and adolescents in China. Methods: A two-stage epidemiologi

Micro-RNAs from Plasma-Derived Small Extracellular Vesicles as Potential Biomarkers for Tic Disorders Diagnosis.

Tic disorders (TDs) are a series of childhood neuropsychiatric disorders characterized by involuntary motor and/or vocal tics and commonly comorbid with several other psychopathological and/or behavioral disorders (e.g., attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder), which indeed aggravate clinical symptoms and complicate diagnosis and treatment. Micro-RNAs (miRNAs) derived from small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) have been recognized as novel circulating biomarkers of disease. To identify specific miRNAs derived from plasma sEVs for TDs' diagnosis and prognosis,

The prevalence of tic disorders for children in China: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Tic disorders (TD) are common neuropsychiatric disorders among children and adolescents. Still, there is great uncertainty regarding their epidemiology in China. We aim to depict the prevalence of TD for children in China and explore the influence of sex, age, geographic distribution, and diagnostic criteria on the prevalence rates. METHODS: We searched PubMed, EMBASE, four Chinese electronic databases, and relevant lists. Two reviewers independently selected trials, assessed trial quality, and extracted the data. RESULTS: We included 13 studies investigating 269,571 participants

Interaction between the endocannabinoid and serotonergic system in the exhibition of head twitch response in four mouse strains.

More than 10 % of children during school years suffer from a transient tic disorder, and 1 % has a particular type of tic disorder known as Tourette syndrome. At present, there is no available treatment that can improve tics without considerable side effects. Recent evidence indicates that tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the principal psychoactive component of cannabis, reduced in mice the head twitch responses, a tic pharmacologically induced by the selective serotonin 5-HT2 receptor agonist 2,5-dimethoxy-4-iodoamphetamine (DOI). THC has some considerable side effects that render its use problema

Tic disorders and Tourette's syndrome.

Diagnostic categories of tic disorders include both transient and chronic tic disorders and Tourette's disorder. Changes for this group of disorders proposed for the forthcoming DSM-5 system include: (1) The term "stereotyped" will be eliminated in the definition of tics and the new definition will be applied consistently across all entities of tic disorders; (2) the diagnosis "Transient Tic Disorder" will change its name to "Provisional Tic Disorder"; (3) introduction of two new categories in individuals whose tics are triggered by illicit drugs or by a medical condition; (4) specification of

Prevalence of tic disorders: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

This study evaluated the prevalence of tic disorders. MEDLINE and EMBASE databases were searched, using terms specific to Tourette syndrome and tic disorders, for studies of incidence, prevalence, and epidemiology. Thirty-five studies reporting data from 1985-2011 on the incidence or prevalence of tic disorders in a defined population were included. One reported incidence, and 34 reported prevalence. Meta-analysis of 13 studies of children yielded a prevalence of Tourette syndrome at 0.77% (95% confidence interval, 0.39-1.51%). Prevalence is higher in boys: 1.06% of boys were affected (95% con

Tourette's disorder and other tic disorders in DSM-5: a comment.

Classification of tic disorders will be revised in the forthcoming edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th ed.; DSM-5). We do not support the suggestion to move tic disorders to "Anxiety and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders", if the section "Disorders Usually First Diagnosed in Infancy, Childhood, or Adolescence" is not retained. Other than that, most proposed changes of the criteria for tic disorders contain a number of welcome improvements, e.g., the more unified definition of tics including the removal of the term "stereotyped" and the better capture of the t

Tic disorders: some key issues for DSM-V.

This study provides a focused review of issues that are relevant to the nosology of the tic disorders and presents preliminary recommendations to be considered for DSM-V. The recommended changes are designed to clarify and simplify the diagnostic criteria, reduce the use of the residual category, tic disorder not otherwise specified, and are not intended to alter substantially clinical practice or the continuity of past and future research. Specific recommendations include: (1) a more precise definition of motor and vocal tics; (2) simplification of the duration criterion for the tic disorders

Harmonisation of ICD-11 and DSM-V: opportunities and challenges.

BACKGROUND: Differences in the ICD-10 and DSM-IV definitions for the same disorder impede international communication and research efforts. The forthcoming parallel development of DSM-V and ICD-11 offers an opportunity to harmonise the two classifications. AIMS: This paper aims to facilitate the harmonisation process by identifying diagnostic differences between the two systems. METHOD: DSM-IV-TR criteria sets and the ICD-10 Diagnostic Criteria for Research were compared and categorised into those with identical definitions, those with conceptually based differences and those in which differ

Childhood onset diagnoses in a case series of teens at clinical high risk for psychosis.

UNLABELLED: REASONS: Schizophrenia is typically an adult neurodevelopmental disorder that has its antecedents in childhood and adolescence. Little is known about disorders "usually first diagnosed in infancy, childhood and adolescence" (e.g., childhood-onset disorders) in "prodromal" teens at heightened clinical risk for psychotic disorder. MAIN FINDINGS: Childhood-onset disorders were prevalent in putatively prodromal teens, including anxiety and disruptive disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and, surprisingly, elimination disorders. These may reflect developmental an
