Effects of Acupuncture on Cerebral Blood Flow in Episodic Migraine Patients Investigated by Arterial Spin Labeling MRI.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the temporal dynamics of cerebral blood flow (CBF) responses to Japanese-style acupuncture in patients with episodic migraine using arterial spin labeling (ASL) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and to compare these responses with those of healthy controls. METHODS: Patients with episodic migraine were recruited according to the International Classification of Headache Disorders, 3rd edition (ICHD-3), and healthy volunteers without migraine served as controls. Japanese-style acupuncture was administered for 10 min at four clinically relevant cranio-cervical acupoints

Hypothalamic subregional volume in relation to VSS-C total symptom burden in women with migraine: an exploratory cross-sectional MRI study.

BACKGROUND: Dizziness, vertigo, and related autonomic symptoms are common in migraine, but whether their combined symptom-frequency burden is associated with hypothalamic subregional structure remains unclear. METHODS: This exploratory cross-sectional secondary analysis included 39 women with ICHD-3-defined migraine. All source T1-weighted images were processed uniformly with FreeSurfer 7.4.1 and automated hypothalamic subunit segmentation. Blinded quality control was performed without clinical data and independently confirmed by a neuroradiologist. The exposure was VSS-C total score, a compo

Multimodal convergence is needed before inferring neuroaxonal injury in migraine.

Gallardo and colleagues reported higher serum neurofilament light (sNf-L), greater susceptibility-weighted imaging signal in the left rostral anterior cingulate cortex, and lower fractional anisotropy in the right cuneus in patients with high-frequency migraine. Their prospective phenotyping and multimodal approach are valuable. However, these modality-specific findings do not necessarily indicate a shared neuroaxonal-injury process. Serum Nf-L is anatomically non-specific, susceptibility-weighted signal is an indirect marker of iron-related changes, and fractional anisotropy reflects several

The Role of Mast Cells and Their Potential as a Therapeutic Target For Neuroinflammation.

Neuroinflammation is increasingly recognized as a central mechanism underlying the onset and progression of numerous neurological disorders, including neurodegenerative, autoimmune, and cerebrovascular diseases. Although microglia and astrocytes are traditionally considered the primary mediators of inflammatory responses within the central nervous system (CNS), accumulating evidence has identified mast cells (MCs) as important contributors to neuroimmune regulation. Strategically located at the interface between the peripheral immune system and the CNS, MCs can rapidly respond to a variety of

Migraine 1-2-3-4-5: a candidate communication aid for adult migraine without aura.

Migraine remains under-recognised despite its substantial global burden. This Correspondence presents Migraine 1-2-3-4-5 as a candidate communication aid for adults aged 18 years or older with recurrent headache. It reorganises selected positive clinical features of migraine without aura from the International Classification of Headache Disorders, third edition (ICHD-3), into five numerical anchors spanning four clinical domains: one associated-symptom category, at least two headache features, one 4-72-hour duration condition jointly encoded by 3 days and 4 h, and at least five attacks. Its pr

REAL: Robust EEG Analysis and Labeling for Chronic Migraine Patients Amidst Label Noises.

OBJECTIVE: Chronic migraine (CM), characterized by headaches on 15 or more days per month, imposes a substantial burden on daily functioning. Although electroencephalography (EEG) shows promise for detecting subtle migraine-related neural signals, data-driven approaches are often hampered by noisy labels arising from diagnostic bias, annotation errors, data collection challenges, and signal instability, ultimately diminishing data representativeness and limiting their generalizability. METHODS: This study presents REAL, a robust EEG analysis and labeling framework integrating (1) global featu
