[Research progress on the autonomic-immune mechanism of acupuncture in regulating ovarian function].

Ovarian dysfunction is an important cause of ovulatory disorders, infertility and endocrine disorders in women, which is commonly observed in conditions including polycystic ovary syndrome, primary ovarian insufficiency, diminished ovarian reserve and ovarian aging-related states. Recent studies have demonstrated that besides abnormalities in the classic hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis, autonomic nervous imbalance and immune-inflammatory disturbance also serve as critical mechanisms underlying impaired ovarian function. Central inflammatory responses, chronic stress and metabolic abnormali

[Mechanism of electroacupuncture combined with antibiotics targeting dorsal motor nucleus of vagus nerve to activate vagus-adrenal axis, alleviate inflammatory response and reduce mortality in septic mice].

OBJECTIVES: To explore the mechanism by which electroacupuncture (EA) combined with antibiotics regulates the vagus-adrenal axis via the dorsal motor nucleus of vagus (DMV), promotes catecholamine secretion, attenuates inflammatory storm, and improves survival rate in septic mice. METHODS: Experiment 1:fifty C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into sham operation group, model group, antibiotic group, EA group, and EA + antibiotic group, with 10 mice in each group. Cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) was performed to establish the sepsis model. Mice in the EA group received 15 min EA (10 Hz, 0.5

Acupuncture combined with transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation for chronic postpartum insomnia comorbid with emotional disorders: a case report.

Postpartum women constitute a vulnerable population in whom insomnia comorbid with emotional disorders such as anxiety and depression is disproportionately prevalent, attributable to hormonal fluctuations, environmental changes, and social role transitions. This comorbidity significantly increases their long-term risk of mental health disorders. Given the safety concerns of sedative-hypnotic medications, non-pharmacological therapies are the first-line treatment for this population. We report the case of a 34-year-old woman with chronic postpartum insomnia comorbid with emotional disorders, wh

The Vagus Nerve-Macrophage Connection: Tuning the Rheostat of Regenerative Medicine.

Chronic musculoskeletal disorders, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and tendinopathies, converge on persistent synovial inflammation, matrix catabolism, and impaired repair. This review synthesizes molecular evidence that the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway (CAP), the efferent vagal arm of the inflammatory reflex, behaves as a rheostat of the musculoskeletal microenvironment. Activation of the α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7nAChR) on macrophages, chondrocytes, osteoblasts, and synoviocytes suppresses nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) and NLRP3 inflammasome signaling, downr

Association between heart rate variability and inflammatory bowel disease activity: a prospective cohort study.

INTRODUCTION: The autonomic nervous system (ANS), particularly its parasympathetic branch, appears to play a role in the regulation of inflammatory pathways in inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). Heart rate variability (HRV) is one of the methods used to assess ANS activity. AIM: The aim of the study was to determine whether HRV monitoring can be used to assess the activity of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) or predict the response to treatment. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We evaluated HRV parameters in 26 patients, 19 with Crohn's disease (CD) and 7 with ulcerative colitis (UC). Holter electroca

Electroacupuncture Ameliorates Alcohol-Related Cognitive Impairment by Modulating the Gut-Brain Axis to Alleviate LPS Driven Neuroinflammation.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether electroacupuncture (EA) at Zusanli (ST36) ameliorates alcohol-related cognitive impairment (ARCI) by restoring intestinal barrier integrity and to elucidate the role of the vagus nerve in this "gut-to-brain" protective mechanism. METHODS: An ARCI mouse model was established by daily ethanol gavage for 28 days. Mice received EA at ST36 from day 15 onwards. Behavioral tests (MWM, OFT, EPM) were conducted to assess cognitive and emotional function. Time-course analysis of intestinal pathology (H&E, ZO-1), permeability (FITC-LPS, DAO), and neuroinflammation (LPS,

The gastrointestinal pathway leading to autoimmune diseases.

The gut microbiota are important in maintaining immune homeostasis through complex interactions with both innate and adaptive immune systems. Disruptions in microbial composition, referred to as dysbiosis, have been increasingly associated with the development and progression of autoimmune diseases. This review explores the key gastrointestinal pathways linking microbiota alterations to immune dysregulation, emphasizing mechanisms that operate from extracellular barrier function to intracellular signaling cascades. Critical processes include impairment of intestinal barrier integrity, modulati

Modified laparoscopic Toupet fundoplication with vagus nerve sparing via total left-side approach for hiatal hernia with gastroesophageal reflux disease: a pilot study.

BACKGROUND: While traditional laparoscopic Toupet fundoplication with bilateral surgical approach (T-TBSA) provides regional protection of the vagal nerve, mandatory lesser omentum dissection risks irreparable damage to the hepatic and anterior gastric branches of the vagus nerve. Therefore, the objective of this pilot study is to describe a modified laparoscopic Toupet fundoplication with total left side surgical approach (MT-TLSA) and evaluate its safety and clinical efficacy in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and hiatal hernia (HH). METHODS: To address these anatomical

Multimodal biomarkers of response to transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation in disorders of consciousness: a study protocol.

Patients with disorders of consciousness (DOC) have limited options for arousal-promoting interventions. Transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS), a non-invasive neuromodulation technique, has shown potential to improve conscious behaviors in a subset of patients with DOC. However, substantial interindividual variability in treatment response remains, and reliable objective biomarkers for identifying patients who may benefit are still lacking. This study is designed as a single-center, prospective, exploratory clinical study. A total of 50 patients with DOC will be consecutivel

The Gut-Brain Axis and Neurodegenerative Diseases: From Mechanistic Pathways to Therapeutic Interventions.

As the global population ages, the incidence of neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs) has increased. Neurodegenerative diseases have complex pathogenesis and currently lack fundamental treatment methods. The gut-brain axis (GBA) participates in the pathogenesis of NDDs through bidirectional communication between the gut microbiota and the central nervous system (CNS). This review systematically introduces the pathogenic characteristics of representative NDDs such as Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD), and multiple sclerosis (MS), as well as the association mechanisms between these

The effect of routine intraoperative neuromonitoring on thyroidectomy complications: A propensity score-matched retrospective cohort study.

Intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) is commonly used during thyroid surgery to facilitate recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) identification and potentially reduce related postoperative complications. However, the efficacy of routine IONM in decreasing complication rates remains debated. In this study, we investigated the impact of IONM on postoperative complications after thyroidectomy. This retrospective single-center study included 214 thyroidectomy operations performed between 2021 and 2024. Patients were divided into 2 groups: Group 1 (n = 107) underwent surgery with routine IONM, and Group
