Twenty-one cases of neuralgic amyotrophy referred for diagnosis and for electromyography were studied. The criteria used for diagnosis included pain, wasting and paralysis of shoulder girdle muscles, the absence of a compressive or traumatic lesion, spontaneous full or partial recovery and electromyographic findings of denervation or reduced numbers of functioning motor units of the muscles involved. In a group of patients with various cardiac disorders positive correlation between aortic root motion amplitude and stroke volume was observed: (y=3.41 + 0.061 chi, r=0.719n=27), where y is the aortic wall motion amplitude in mm and chi is the stroke volume in ml. Ankylosing spondylitis is more common in young men than in young women and is insidious in onset. Typically, patients complain of pain and stiffness around the sacroiliac region. Cysts and sinuses of the face and neck should always bring to mind the possibility of causative underlying dental disease. This should be investigated by history, physical examination and appropriate roentgenograms of the teeth. Abscesses of the teeth are the most common dental causes for the suspicious facial mass or sinus tract. Appropriate management includes extraction or root canal therapy of the diseases tooth. Any residual facial scar can later be excised and reconstructed as appropriate.

In the "flexion-adduction" sign, the arm is maintained in a posture of flexion at the elbow and adduction at the shoulder. Abduction and lateral rotation of the arm, with the elbow in extension, may result in radicular pain. These signs may be useful in the evaluation of patients with cervical root or brachial plexus lesions.

BALB/c mice passively immunized with antibody to herpes simplex virus type 1 and challenged in the footpad with 10(5.7) plaque-forming units of herpes simplex virus type 1 were shown to be protected from neurological disease and death compared with control mice treated with normal serum or antibody to Sindbis virus. It has been our practice to perform total myelography in all cases of lumbar disc disease including the various syndromes of spinal stenosis, because experience has indicated that myelographic abnormalities in the cervical and thoracic areas could have clinical importance despite the presence of gross changes in the lumbar region. Four cases are presented of aortic root dissection after aortocoronary bypass surgery in which the origin of the intimal tear was at or very near the aortic site of saphenous vein anastomosis. Two cases were documented at autopsy. In one of two cases diagnosed with aortography, the patient underwent surgical correction and survived. Intrauterine development and postnatal maintenance of dorsal root ganglion neurons are abnormal in familial dysautonomia, an autosomal recessive disorder associated with autonomic, motor and sensory deficits. Normally, dorsal root ganglion weight increases with age. This does not occur in the cervical plexus ganglia of dysautonomic patients. A study was done to evaluate long-term results of treating 387 maxillary molars with furcation involvement in 100 patients with chronic destructive periodontal disease. Results showed a favorable long term functional survival rate of 341 teeth (88%) 5 to 24 years after treatment, despite the fact that many teeth had at least one root with 50% or less of bone support before treatment. Factors in the production of chronic cervical myelopathy are considered to be developmental narrowing of the cervical spinal canal and the development of osteochondrotic changes.
