UNLABELLED: Tenosynovial giant cell tumor (T-GCT) and pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) are interchangeable terms for an uncommon benign proliferation of synovial tissue1-6. Although neoplastic and inflammatory origins have been hypothesized, the etiology of this condition is unknown. There is controversy regarding surgical treatment, as the open and arthroscopic approaches to synovectomy have shown comparable reported outcomes in the literature5-7. However, direct comparison of these 2 operative methods is problematic because of selective bias in the existing literature and the lack of

BACKGROUND: Severe traction injury to the brachial plexus (BP) during childbirth can induce the formation of intraneural scar tissue or neuroma in continuity. This can lead to nerve entrapment and demyelination, which inhibit axonal transport to the target muscles. Secondary complications include muscle weakness, contractures, joint deformity, and altered limb growth with prolonged and persistent disability. These patients find difficulty performing activities of daily living. BP neurolysis is one of the multistage reconstructive procedures in patients with obstetric brachial plexus injury (OB

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: In the last years the presence of peripheral nervous system (PNS) lesions has been noted in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). The frequency and degree of PNS damage reported by many authors differ among publications, so does the type of PNS lesions. The aim of our study was to perform an electrophysiological evaluation of the peripheral nervous system in patients with a definite diagnosis of multiple sclerosis and without any clinical signs of peripheral neuropathy.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: 110 patients were included in the study, comprising 70 people with a definite

BACKGROUND: Early surgical repair to restore nerve integrity has become the most commonly practiced method for managing facial nerve injury. However, the evidence for the efficacy of surgical repair for restoring the function of facial nerves remains deficient. This study evaluated the outcomes of surgical repair for facial nerve lesions.
METHODS: This retrospective observational study recruited 28 patients with the diagnosis of facial nerve injury who consecutively underwent surgical repairs from September 2012 to May 2019. All related clinical data were retrospectively analyzed according to

The article describes the results of studying the changes in peripheral nerves of a limb after a mechanically induced ischemia. It assessed myelinated nerve fibers in sciatic and tibial nerves after 6 hours of ischemia, simulated by a tourniquet on the level of a tibial, knee, and a lower third of a femur. Fasciculi of the sciatic nerve have shown no changes in the density of nerve fibers in 5th, 15th, and 30th days after the simulated ischemia, but we revealed the deformed fibers with the different thickness of myelin sheath. In a tibial nerve, myelin loss and deformations occurred on the 5th

Tarsal tunnel syndrome (TTS), resulting from compression of the posterior tibial nerve (PTN) within the tarsal tunnel, is a relatively uncommon entrapment neuropathy. Many cases of tarsal tunnel syndrome are idiopathic; however, some causes, including space-occupying lesions, may lead to occurrence of TTS symptoms. Schwannoma, the most common tumor of the sheath of peripheral nerves, is among these space-occupying lesions, and may cause TTS when it arises within the tarsal tunnel, and it may mimic TTS even when it is located outside the tarsal tunnel and cause a significant delay in diagnosis.

BACKGROUND: Nerve damage in diabetic neuropathy (DN) is assumed to begin in the distal legs with a subsequent progression to hands and arms at later stages. In contrast, recent studies have found that lower limb nerve lesions in DN predominate at the proximal sciatic nerve and that, in the upper limb, nerve functions can be impaired at early stages of DN.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this prospective, single-center cross-sectional study, participants underwent diffusion-weighted 3 Tesla magnetic resonance neurography in order to calculate the sciatic nerve's fractional anisotropy (FA), a surroga

A phase 1 open-label, non-randomized clinical trial was conducted to determine feasibility and safety of autologous human Schwann cell (ahSC) transplantation accompanied by rehabilitation in participants with chronic spinal cord injury (SCI). Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was used to screen eligible participants to estimate an individualized volume of cell suspension to be implanted. The trial incorporated standardized multi-modal rehabilitation before and after cell delivery. Participants underwent sural nerve harvest, and ahSCs were isolated and propagated in culture. BACKGROUND: Nerve injuries are debilitating, leading to long-term motor deficits. Remyelination and axonal growth are supported and enhanced by growth factor and cytokines. Combination of nerve guidance conduits (NGCs) with adipose-tissue-derived multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells (AdMSCs) has been performing promising strategy for nerve regeneration.
METHODS: 3D-printed polycaprolactone (PCL)-NGCs were fabricated. Wistar rats subjected to critical sciatic nerve damage (12-mm gap) were divided into sham, autograft, PCL (empty NGC), and PCL + MSCs (NGC multi-functionalized with 106 canine A

Neuropathic pain occurs in more than half of the patients suffering from peripheral neuropathies. We investigated the role of microRNA (miR)-21 in neuropathic pain using a murine-human translational approach. We applied the spared nerve injury (SNI) model at the sciatic nerve of mice and assessed the potential analgesic effect of perineurial miR-21-5p inhibitor application. Immune-related targets of miR-21-5p were determined by a qRT-PCR based cytokine and chemokine array. Bioinformatical analysis identified potential miR-21-5p targets interacting with CC-chemokine ligand (CCL)5. We validated
