The term "foot drop" is defined as the loss of active dorsiflexion at the tibiotalar joint. Surgical procedures such as tendon transfer may be considered in patients who have had foot drop for more than a year. The most commonly reported tendon transfer in the treatment of drop foot is the tibialis posterior tendon. In cases where the tibialis posterior tendon is non-functional, transfer of one of the non-standard tendons such as FHL tendon to the dorsum of the foot is performed. In the presented case, the surgical technique of endoscopic transfer of the FHL tendon was illustrated. The patient

The aetiology of carpal tunnel syndrome is often idiopathic, and it is seldom caused by a space-occupying lesion. Herein, we report our experience with a case of parosteal lipoma causing carpal tunnel syndrome. A 66-year-old woman with a history of hyperthyroidism and hypertension presented with numbness and pain on the ulnar side of the left index finger without any triggers. A positive Tinel sign in the left carpal tunnel and presence of a space-occupying lesion with fat concentration extending from the carpal tunnel to the central subcutaneous palmar region on computed tomography led to the

The infraorbital nerve, a terminal branch of the maxillary division (V2) of the trigeminal nerve, supplies sensation to the upper lip, lower eyelid, and midface. Neuropathy in this distribution typically presents as paresthesia with or without anesthesia, dysesthesia, and/or allodynia. While trauma, dental pathology, sinusitis, and certain neurological conditions are possible causes, emerging literature has identified post-viral neuropathies, including cranial mononeuropathies, as potential sequelae of COVID-19. This case highlights a rare presentation of presumed post-viral infraorbital neuro

Studies have shown that carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is associated with inflammation and immunity. Additionally, recent research indicates that the gut microbiota can influence the development and progression of immune and inflammatory responses. We aim to investigate the causal impact of gut microbiota on CTS and identify potential immune cell mediators. We made use of the summary statistics of 412 gut microbiota (from 7738 individuals), 731 immune cells (from 3757 individuals), and CTS (FinnGen consortium), from the extensive genome-wide association studies to date. To determine the causal l

RATIONALE: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most common neuropathy worldwide. Although multiple factors contribute to CTS, persistent median artery (PMA)-related CTS is relatively uncommon. To date, no literature has reported the ultrasonic features of different types of PMA-induced CTS.
PATIENT CONCERNS: We report the clinical manifestations and ultrasonographic features of 3 patients with different types of CTS associated with PMA and review relevant literature.
DIAGNOSES: All 3 cases were diagnosed with PMA combined with CTS, specifically categorized as CTS with PMA thrombosis, CTS wit

INTRODUCTION: Local anaesthesia with tourniquet (LA-T) and wide-awake local anaesthesia no tourniquet (WALANT) are both commonly used in hand surgery. However, the differences in postoperative pain between these methods in various procedures are unclear.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective single-surgeon case series of 356 procedures (184 LA-T; 172 WALANT) between 2015 and 2019. Included cases were unilateral carpal tunnel release and single-digit A1 pulley release. Postoperative pain was assessed on days 1-3 and at 2 weeks using patient-reported pain scores, sleep disturbance, hospital vis

PURPOSE: This study aimed to determine whether patients with wrist arthritis undergoing corrective surgeries, such as 4-corner fusion (4CF), proximal row carpectomy (PRC), wrist fusion, or total wrist arthroplasty, have a higher incidence of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) and subsequent carpal tunnel release (CTR) compared with those managed nonsurgically.
METHODS: The PearlDiver database was used to identify two patient groups: the surgical group (patient with wrist arthritis who underwent corrective surgery) and the conservative group (patients with wrist arthritis who did not have surgery).

BACKGROUND: Patients who experience spinal injury and secondary paraplegia encounter a variety of risk factors that contribute to the development of subsequent upper extremity pathology. Trauma to surrounding structures, invasive surgical interventions, hardware placement, and overuse of the upper extremity among manual wheelchair users may further increase this risk.
CASE REPORT: A 36-year-old woman suffered spinal and rib injuries, requiring surgical fixation, and recently developed paresthesias in her upper extremities. Prolonged manual wheelchair use presumably contributed to further asso

This case is a 37-year-old man with diffuse primary synovial chondromatosis of the elbow, with associated ulnar nerve compression and flexion contracture at the elbow. An open synovectomy with removal of loose bodies and an ulnar nerve decompression with anterior subcutaneous transposition were performed. Postoperatively, the patient's elbow mobility and nerve compression symptoms improved steadily, which significantly improved his function. Primary synovial chondromatosis of the elbow is a rare disease that can result in pain, swelling, decreased range of motion, and mechanical symptoms. Trea

PURPOSE: Carpal tunnel syndrome is commonly treated with open (OCTR) or endoscopic carpal tunnel release (ECTR), both effective for long-term symptomatic relief. However, early recovery trajectories and the prognostic value of short-term postoperative improvements remain poorly understood. Although prior studies have emphasized minimum clinically important difference (MCID), fewer have assessed higher, patient-centered benchmarks such as patient-acceptable symptom state (PASS) and substantial clinical benefit (SCB). This study evaluated the timing and rates at which patients undergoing OCTR an

STUDY TYPE: Retrospective cohort.
PURPOSE: Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a rare but debilitating complication that may develop following distal radius fracture (DRF). Concomitant nerve-related injury may increase risk. The current study aimed to evaluate the incidence and odds of developing CRPS following DRF with or without need for open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) and/or carpel tunnel release (CTR).
METHODS: Unilateral DRF patients between 2010-2022 were abstracted from the PearlDiver M170 Ortho database. Cohorts were defined as: (1) DRF managed non-operatively, (2) D

OBJECTIVES: To examine the mediating role of catastrophizing in the relationship between pain and disability among patients with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS).
METHODS: Cross-sectional register of 141 patients with CTS. Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS) was used. Mediation analysis was used to assess the indirect effect of pain catastrophizing on pain-related disability.
RESULTS: The average age was 54.0 (SD 16.1) years and 89 (63 %) were women. For the total PCS score, the indirect effect was responsible for 31 % (95 % CI 15 %-47 %) to 33 % (95 % CI 15 %-52 %). The highest proportion was obse

BACKGROUND: In skeletally immature individuals, vascularized epiphyseal transfer allows for reconstruction of complex bony defects while preserving longitudinal growth and providing a reliable articular surface for effective joint function. The shape and size of the proximal fibular epiphysis allow for gradual remodeling of the articular surface, facilitating favorable reconstruction and rehabilitation over time. Moreover, the proximal fibula is highly expandable, with less weight-bearing function, contributing to low donor-site morbidity. However, peroneal nerve dysfunction-related foot drop

BACKGROUND: Cubital tunnel syndrome (CuTS) is a commonly seen form of compressive neuropathy. This study aimed to assess the clinical value of 3D-FIESTA-C for evaluating the arcuate ligament in patients with CuTS. METHODS: Between October 2018 and May 2019, 22 inpatients diagnosed with CuTS were enrolled (15 males, 7 females; mean age 60.91 ± 7.38 years). All patients underwent preoperative 3D-FIESTA-C scanning of the elbow joint and subsequently received cubital tunnel release. The accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and kappa value of the

INTRODUCTION: Cubital tunnel syndrome is the second most prevalent upper limb compression neuropathy. Limitations in non-operative and surgical treatment warrant an adjunctive preventative approach targeting modifiable risk factors. However, risk factors are poorly characterized given methodologic shortcomings in previous studies.
METHODS: In this case-control study in the UK Biobank (1971 cases, 398,639 controls), multivariable logistic regression with extensive covariate correction was conducted to assess the association between cubital tunnel syndrome and sex, age, ethnicity, socioeconomic

OBJECTIVE: Despite emerging interest in dynamic parameters like the ratio of median nerve-to-hamate distance for diagnosing carpal tunnel syndrome-particularly in selected populations such as hemodialysis patients-this study evaluates whether the inlet cross-sectional area retains diagnostic superiority in a general carpal tunnel syndrome population.
DESIGN: In this case-control study, 88 participants (44 carpal tunnel syndrome patients, 44 healthy controls) were recruited from a tertiary referral university hospital between November 2024 and March 2025. High-resolution ultrasonography measur

Tarsal tunnel syndrome is an entrapment neuropathy caused by the compression of the tibial nerve and its terminal branches in the tarsal tunnel. Electrophysiological examinations are often used to diagnose tarsal tunnel syndrome. Surgical decompression of the tibial nerve is performed in patients who are resistant to conservative treatment. However, the preoperative electrophysiological findings that predict surgical outcomes remain unknown. This study aimed to clarify the preoperative electrophysiological findings that predict the surgical outcomes of tarsal tunnel syndrome. We reviewed 28 fe

INTRODUCTION/AIMS: Obesity is a well-established risk factor for carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), but body mass index (BMI) does not distinguish adiposity from skeletal muscle mass. The role of sarcopenia in CTS has received little attention. Sarcopenia may increase nerve vulnerability to compression. We examined whether appendicular lean mass index (ALMI) and ALMI-defined sarcopenia are associated with CTS independent of BMI.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 193 consecutive patients aged 50 years or older who underwent carpal tunnel release by a single surgeon at a tertiary center over 4 ye
