OBJECTIVE: Immune-related polyradiculoneuropathy (irPRN) is a rare but potentially severe neurological adverse event secondary to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), closely resembling Guillain-Barré syndrome. This study aims to characterize the clinical presentation, neurophysiological findings, therapeutic strategies, and clinical outcomes of patients diagnosed with irPRN.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective single-center study including patients diagnosed with irPRN following ICI therapy between May 2018 and July 2024. Clinical, electrophysiological, and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) data w

GBS (Guillain-Barré syndrome) is an acute immune-mediated peripheral neuropathy whose pathological mechanisms remain incompletely understood. Our study aimed to explore the intrinsic link and potential mechanisms between circulating dyslipidemia and immune metabolic remodeling of monocytes in GBS. Clinical data from 163 patients diagnosed with classic GBS and 169 healthy controls were analyzed to examine the correlations between their lipid profiles and immune cell features. Leveraging our team's previously published single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) dataset for GBS, we characterized the

PURPOSE: A disabling peripheral nervous system disorder, Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), has very limited treatment options. However, some patients have poor outcomes even after receiving treatment. This study aimed to compare the efficacy of efgartigimod versus intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) for treating GBS with disability.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed data from GBS patients who were unable to walk independently and were admitted between January 1, 2023, and February 28, 2025. Our primary outcome was the proportion of patients able to walk independently at week 4 and

Historically endemic to parts of South America, Oropouche virus (OROV) has caused an estimated 500,000 infections since its discovery, with a marked geographic expansion beyond the Amazon basin into other regions of South America and the Caribbean since late 2023. This Review synthesises current evidence on OROV epidemiology, transmission dynamics, clinical manifestations, diagnostics, viral diversity, and public health impact, with the primary objective of identifying critical knowledge gaps and outlining priorities for surveillance, research, and control. Human transmission occurs primarily

BACKGROUND: Peripheral neuropathy is caused by numerous etiologies, such as immune, infectious, neoplastic, metabolic, toxic, traumatic, vasculitic, hereditary factors, etc. Each etiological type has no special manifestation, and the misdiagnosis rate is relatively high. Acute intermittent porphyria (AIP) is a rare disease, often complicated by peripheral nerve injury, and can develop sequelae after delayed diagnosis or treatment.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 26-year-old female patient presented with recurrent abdominal pain, limb numbness and weakness, and autonomic neuropathy. Symptoms aggravated a

BACKGROUND: Episodic ataxia type 2 (EA2) is the most common subtype of episodic ataxia and is primarily caused by pathogenic variants in the CACNA1A gene. Although classically characterized by paroxysmal ataxia, CACNA1A-related disorders are increasingly recognized as an age-dependent phenotypic continuum that extends beyond episodic cerebellar dysfunction to include fluctuating weakness, persistent neurological signs, and neurodevelopmental impairments.
CASE REPORT: A 12-year-old boy presented with episodic vertigo. His medical history was notable for infantile paroxysmal tonic upward gaze b

Background: Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is a rare, immune-mediated disorder affecting the peripheral nerves, often presenting with ascending muscle weakness and possible respiratory failure, usually following an infection. Borrelia burgdorferi, the causative agent of Lyme neuroborreliosis, is an uncommon trigger of GBS. Case presentation: We report the case of a 13-year-old girl with Lyme neuroborreliosis who developed sensorimotor GBS. She presented with progressive, symmetrical weakness, initially in the lower limbs and subsequently in the upper limbs, accompanied by absent deep tendon ref

This case describes a 61-year-old woman with autoimmune autonomic ganglionopathy (AAG) on long-term intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) who developed progressive weakness and sensory loss, ultimately diagnosed as chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP). Initially evaluated for Guillain-Barré syndrome, cerebrospinal fluid analysis revealed albuminocytologic dissociation without central lesions on MRI. Despite IVIG therapy, symptoms worsened, and electrodiagnostic testing demonstrated demyelination with conduction block and secondary axonal loss, confirming CIDP. Subsequent plasma

Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is an acute polyneuropathy with an incidence of 0.69 per 100 000 children annually. Electrophysiological variants vary geographically, with the axonal subtype more common in parts of Asia; however, pediatric data from Latin America remains limited, underscoring the need for regional studies to inform clinical management. This retrospective cohort study examined the incidence, electrophysiological variants, and clinical outcomes of children under 16 years hospitalized for GBS in an intensive care unit serving approximately 8% of the Chilean population in Santiago (

Acute intermittent porphyria (AIP) is a rare heme biosynthesis disorder in which the accumulation of neurotoxic porphyrin precursors precipitates neurovisceral attacks. Intercurrent infections, including coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), may trigger or exacerbate AIP and complicate diagnosis, as clinical manifestations can resemble those of other acute neuropathies. This report describes a 16-year-old girl who developed abdominal pain, seizures, and rapidly progressive acute motor neuropathy shortly after COVID-19 and was initially misdiagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS). Diagnostic

We present a case of a 51-year-old female presenting with abdominal pain and generalized weakness, with working diagnoses of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH), hepatotoxicity, and posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) following a five-day course of ciprofloxacin for UTI. Although PRES and SIADH have been reported in relation to GBS, hepatotoxicity has never been linked to GBS in the literature. Despite the fact that each of these entities has been described in the literature as an attributable adverse effect of ciprofl

BACKGROUND: Bickerstaff Brainstem Encephalitis (BBE) is a rare, post-infectious autoimmune disorder characterized by ophthalmoplegia, ataxia, and altered consciousness. Its significant clinical and serological overlap with Miller Fisher syndrome (MFS) and Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) creates diagnostic challenges, particularly in atypical or seronegative presentations. These conditions are collectively understood as components of the anti-GQ1b antibody syndrome, a spectrum of neuro-immune disorders.
AIMS: This review provides a clinically focused, integrative synthesis of the anti-GQ1b antib

INTRODUCTION: Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is an autoimmune disorder affecting the peripheral nervous system, with an annual worldwide incidence of 1-2 cases per 100,000 people. The incidence of GBS in Australia has not been studied in the past 38 years, and existing Australian literature presents a different severity profile compared to that observed in the Barwon South West Region (BSWR). The aim of this study was to describe and compare the prevalence of GBS in two proximate regional areas of Australia.
METHODS: A retrospective file audit was conducted for patients residing in the BSWR or

Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is an acute immune-mediated polyradiculoneuropathy characterized by rapidly progressive weakness and variable recovery trajectories. Although many patients regain functional independence after the acute phase, increasing evidence suggests that long-term sequelae such as fatigue, pain, residual disability, and reduced health-related quality of life are common and frequently under-recognized. However, contemporary evidence on long-term outcomes after GBS remains dispersed across multiple study designs and populations, making an updated synthesis clinically relevant.

BACKGROUND: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is recognized as a systemic disorder involving gut-brain-immune axis dysregulation, but its long-term association with immune-mediated peripheral neuropathies, including Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), is unclear.
METHODS: We conducted a nationwide retrospective cohort study using the Korean National Health Insurance database, including approximately 2 million adults from 2012 to 2023. Incident IBS cases were identified after a 3-year washout period and matched 1:2 with controls by age, sex, and health examination year. Primary outcomes were GBS immun
