BACKGROUND: Co-occurrence of facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) and myasthenia gravis (MG) is rare but clinically critical, as treatable MG symptoms may be misattributed to FSHD progression. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to comprehensively characterize patients with both conditions and to quantitatively synthesize the available individual patient data.
METHODS: Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, we searched four databases until 3 April 2026 for original reports providing individual-patient data on confirmed FSHD and MG co-occurrence. We performed descriptive and qua

BACKGROUND: Meaningful patient engagement requires understanding lived disease and healthcare experiences. This patient-centric approach is especially valuable when applied to the design and execution of clinical trials, as participation barriers may hinder trial recruitment, retention, and detection of meaningful outcomes. Patient engagement is particularly important in the study of treatments for rare diseases, where populations are small and geographically dispersed and there are few sites with relevant clinical expertise. Additionally, protocol amendments to address hurdles are expensive a

PURPOSE: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) has been implicated in multiple autoimmune disorders; however, its role in myasthenia gravis (MG) remains incompletely defined. We investigated EBV nuclear antigen 1 (EBNA-1)-specific humoral immunity in MG and examined whether human leukocyte antigen (HLA) genotypes modulate this association.
METHODS: Serum anti-EBNA-1 IgG levels were measured in 106 treatment-naïve MG patients and 230 healthy controls (HCs). An independent MG cohort (n = 244) underwent whole-genome sequencing for HLA genotyping, with 44 treatment-naïve patients also tested for anti-EBNA-1 I

INTRODUCTION: Ocular myasthenia gravis (OMG) is an autoantibody-mediated disease characterized by extraocular muscle weakness. Telitacicept has shown potential in treating autoimmune diseases, but its efficacy and corticosteroid-tapering outcomes in OMG remain unexamined.
METHODS: This retrospective, multicenter study evaluated the efficacy and corticosteroid-tapering outcomes of telitacicept in 19 OMG patients (11 with refractory OMG and eight with newly/reinitiated treatment OMG). The primary endpoint was the proportion of patients achieving minimal symptom expression (MSE) within 6 months.

BACKGROUND: Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disorder of the neuromuscular junction. The muscle-specific kinase (MuSK) antibody-positive subtype often involves bulbar and respiratory muscles, conferring a high risk of myasthenic crisis.
METHOD: We report a very late-onset MuSK-MG case complicated by lung infection and acute heart failure, with a history of peptic ulcer. The patient was sequentially treated with efgartigimod and telitacicept, achieving minimal symptom expression (MSE) within 1.5 months.
DISCUSSION: Following the first efgartigimod infusion, QMG and MG-ADL scores improv

Infectious diseases and disorders of the neuromuscular junction (NMJ) are linked by complex and heterogeneous mechanisms that extend beyond direct pathogen-mediated injury. While some infectious agents can directly impair neuromuscular transmission, others may act as triggers of autoimmunity or contribute to the exacerbation of pre-existing NMJ disorders. However, the mechanisms underlying these interactions remain incompletely understood. In this narrative review, we summarize the current evidence regarding infections associated with NMJ dysfunction. Available evidence suggests that infection

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: New and costly therapies for myasthenia gravis (MG) have been approved during the last years, and many more are in the pipeline. Cost-benefit analyses are needed as part of defining start and stop criteria for such treatments. In this systematic review, we examine healthcare costs associated with MG: METHODS: A systematic literature search combined the word "myasthenia gravis" with "health resources", and "costs". 1374 records were identified initially, and 44 were included in the final review.
RESULTS: Direct costs include treatment and follow-up in the primary and

PURPOSE: Very late-onset myasthenia gravis (vloMG; onset ≥ 65 years) may represent a clinically distinct subgroup, but its severity and prognosis remain uncertain. We systematically reviewed studies comparing vloMG with earlier-onset MG (non-vloMG) and examined whether findings differed from the conventional early-onset (EOMG) versus late-onset dichotomy (LOMG; ≥ 50 years).
METHODS: MEDLINE, Embase, CENTRAL, and Google Scholar were searched from inception to May 2026. Observational studies of adult MG comparing age-at-onset groups were eligible. The main quantitative outcome was severe early

OBJECTIVES: Complement C5 inhibitors such as ravulizumab are increasingly used for acetylcholine receptor-positive generalized myasthenia gravis (MG) but confer a relevant risk of invasive meningococcal infection. We report a rare case of fulminant meningococcal meningitis despite complete vaccination, highlighting the limits of current preventive strategies.
METHODS: Case report.
RESULTS: A 41-year-old woman with acetylcholine receptor-positive MG was treated with ravulizumab after two-dose series meningococcal vaccination (MenACWY and MenB). One month after therapy initiation, she presente

BACKGROUND: Thymectomy is an established treatment for thymoma-associated myasthenia gravis (MG). However, a subset of patients develop new-onset MG after surgery. Although thymectomy affects immune homeostasis, its comprehensive impact on the peripheral immune system remains unclear, particularly at the single-cell transcriptomic level. Therefore, we aimed to characterize immune remodeling following thymectomy in anti-acetylcholine receptor (AChR) antibody-positive patients without overt MG.
METHODS: Peripheral blood mononuclear cells were collected from three anti-AChR antibody-positive pat

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) can lead to immune-related adverse events, including myocarditis with myositis and/or myasthenia gravis overlap syndrome (IM3OS). This syndrome poses notable management challenges and has high mortality rates. Due to limited data, its clinical features and optimal treatment strategies remain poorly understood. The present study aims to clarify these aspects and share clinical management experiences. A total of 6 patients with IM3OS were retrospectively analyzed, collecting demographic, clinical, laboratory, electrophysiological, therapeutic and outcome data.

Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a heterogeneous neuroimmune disorder in which pathogenic autoantibodies impair neuromuscular junction transmission and produce fluctuating skeletal muscle weakness. Although conventional therapy with acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, corticosteroids, and broad immunosuppressants remains effective for many patients, its limitations are increasingly evident, including delayed onset, cumulative toxicity, and inadequate control in refractory disease. These challenges have accelerated the transition from non-selective immunosuppression to biologic and other targeted therapi

Immune checkpoint inhibitors are a major part of many cancer treatment protocols. Most side effects are generally minor, including fatigue, rashes, flu-like symptoms, headaches, or cough. However, some potential side effects may require prompt treatment to ensure optimal outcomes, so it is essential for clinicians to be knowledgeable about these rare but possible complications. We report a case of an 88-year-old woman who presented with the triple M overlap syndrome (TMOS) of myasthenia gravis, myositis, and myocarditis after receiving four rounds of atezolizumab treatment. This diagnosis was

BACKGROUND: The prognostic association of preoperative myasthenia gravis (MG) with outcomes after thymoma resection remains uncertain.
METHODS: This three-center cohort included 1,368 patients undergoing thymoma resection (2009-2025); MG status was fixed at surgery. We evaluated overall survival and, after R0 resection, documented recurrence with death as a competing event. Stabilized weights adjusted for center, age, sex, histology, Masaoka-Koga stage, tumor diameter, and surgery year. Alternative analyses addressed recorded-M0 disease, detailed balance, operative extent, and follow-up.

BACKGROUND: Data on mortality risk and its predictors among elderly patients with generalized myasthenia gravis (gMG) in the United States remain limited.
METHODS: A prevalent cohort of Medicare Fee-for-Service beneficiaries with gMG and those without MG were identified using data from 01/2018 to 12/2023. Patients without MG were matched 10:1 to the gMG cohort on age and index year. Cohorts were weighted using overlap propensity scores on demographic and clinical characteristics. Mortality was assessed using Kaplan-Meier and Cox proportional hazards models from the index date (gMG cohort: ran

OBJECTIVE: Ptosis and diplopia are common neuro-ophthalmological presentations with a broad differential diagnosis. In clinical practice, stimulated single-fiber electromyography (SFEMG) is often requested when ocular myasthenia gravis (MG) remains a diagnostic consideration after initial evaluation. This study evaluated the diagnostic contribution of stimulated SFEMG in a real-world cohort of patients referred with ptosis and/or diplopia.
METHODS: Patients presenting with ptosis, diplopia or both were prospectively recruited and underwent comprehensive serological, radiological, and electrop

INTRODUCTION: Conventional treatments for generalized myasthenia gravis (gMG) include acetylcholinesterase inhibitors (AChEi), systemic corticosteroids, and non-steroidal immunosuppressants; standard of care for exacerbation or myasthenic crisis includes immunoglobulin and plasmapheresis; newer advanced treatments include B-cell depleting agents, complement-5 inhibitors (C5i), and neonatal Fc receptor (FcRn) blockers. This study described real-world treatment patterns with currently available therapies and prevalence of myasthenia gravis (MG)-related clinical events (exacerbations or crises) a
