Inflammatory biomarker panels in peripheral blood: association with myasthenia gravis onset and severity.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the association between peripheral blood inflammatory biomarkers and the clinical phenotypes, severity, and prognosis of myasthenia gravis (MG). METHODS: This retrospective study analyzed 134 MG patients (including 23 with myasthenic crisis [MC]) and 58 age- and sex-matched healthy controls hospitalized at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University (August 2016-March 2024). Peripheral blood inflammatory markers were compared across subgroups. Infection was strictly excluded based on clinical and laboratory criteria. Multivariate logistic regression and rece

Assessment of Voice and Speech Attributes in Adult Patients with Myasthenia Gravis: A Case-Control Study.

INTRODUCTION: Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a chronic autoimmune disorder that affects neuromuscular junction, resulting in fluctuating muscle weakness. Speech and voice can be affected by MG due to the involvement of bulbar muscles and muscular weakness, resulting in dysarthria. This work aimed to assess speech and voice attributes in adult patients with MG in comparison to normal individuals to highlight the effect of MG on speech and voice and its impact on quality of life. METHODS: This study involved 40 participants (over 18 years old), who were divided into two groups matched for age and se

Differential response to ofatumumab in anti-AChR and anti-MuSK positive myasthenia gravis patients: a single-center retrospective study.

BACKGROUND: Ofatumumab (OFA), a humanized anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody, shows potential in myasthenia gravis (MG) with antibody against acetylcholine receptor (AChR-Ab), but comparative efficacy across AChR and muscle-specific kinase (MuSK) subtypes remains uncharacterized. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate OFA's clinical and immunological effects in AChR-MG versus MuSK-MG, identify predictors of minimal symptom expression (MSE), and explore the dynamics of B-cell repopulation. DESIGN: A retrospective study in a single center. METHODS: Twenty-one refractory MG patients (13 MuSK+, 8 AChR+) received i

Incidence and risk factors of immune checkpoint inhibitor myocardial and muscle toxicity: a French nationwide study.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI)-induced (cardio)-myotoxicities, including myocarditis and myositis, are uncommon but frequently severe adverse drug reactions seen in cancer patients. Real-life ICI myotoxicity incidence estimates span from limited-size cohorts, with risk factors and prognosticators poorly established, as well as their impact on survival. METHODS: This retrospective French National Health Data System cohort study included all adult patients starting ICI between 1 January 2012 and 30 September 2022. A 'narrow' and a 'broad' code combination (based on Inter

A comprehensive electrooculography measurement system and protocols for screening myasthenia gravis.

Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular disorder that can precipitate serious and fatal complications, especially when respiratory muscles are affected. Current electrodiagnostic methods, such as Single Fiber Electromyography (SFEMG) and Repetitive Nerve Stimulation (RNS), have notable limitations. While SFEMG is sensitive to neuromuscular abnormalities rather than being specific for MG, it is also a semi-invasive procedure that requires supervision by specialist clinicians and an expensive clinical setup. Conversely, RNS is highly specific for MG, but its sensitivity decreases in cases of l

Current status and challenges of biologic targeted therapy for myasthenia gravis in China.

Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune neuromuscular disorder posing substantial disease burden in China, with significant impacts on patient quality of life. While conventional immunosuppressants remain fundamental therapy, biologic targeted agents-including B-cell targeting drugs, complement C5 inhibitors, FcRn antagonists, and IL-6R inhibitors-have brought major advances, especially for refractory and MuSK-antibody-positive MG. Increasing availability in China has demonstrated promising clinical outcomes, yet substantial barriers remain. Challenges include high drug costs, limited insuranc

Emergency use of eculizumab in impending and manifest myasthenic crisis: a retrospective case series.

Impending and manifest myasthenic crisis (MC) represent life-threatening neurological emergencies that require immediate intervention. Although eculizumab, a terminal complement C5 inhibitor, has established efficacy in generalized myasthenia gravis, most studies have focused on long-term outcomes, and its potential for rapid onset of effect in acute exacerbations has not been well evaluated. We retrospectively analyzed four acetylcholine receptor (AChR) antibody-positive patients (five acute episodes) who received eculizumab as emergency therapy between January 2024 and July 2025. All patient
