BACKGROUND: Selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) is a neurosurgical procedure that reduces lower limb spasticity, performed in some children with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy. Effective pain management after SDR is essential for early rehabilitation. This study aimed to describe the anaesthetic and early pain management, pain and adverse events in children following SDR.
METHODS: This was a retrospective cohort study. Participants were all children who underwent SDR at a single Australian tertiary hospital between 2010 and 2020. Electronic medical records of all children identified were review

BACKGROUND: To identify if a predetermined set of potential risk factors are associated with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy (SDCP) in term-born children.
METHODS: This is a case-control study with cases (n = 134) extracted from the Canadian Cerebral Palsy Registry (CCPR) and controls (n = 1950) from the Alberta Pregnancy Outcomes and Nutrition (APrON) study. Our primary variable was the SDCP phenotype in term-born children. Possible risk factors were selected a priori and include extreme maternal age (<19 or >35 years), pregnancy complications, maternal disease, substance use, perinatal infe

Cerebral palsy (CP) manifests as atypical muscle tone, posture, and movement, and is classified into four main types: extrapyramidal (dyskinetic), spastic quadriplegia, spastic hemiplegia, and spastic diplegia. Patients with CP might move awkwardly because of this since it indicates that their muscles are tense. We report the case of a 13-year-old child who complained of soreness in his right calf muscle and trouble walking over the previous two years. His condition is recognized as spastic diplegic CP. This report aims to understand the impact of neurophysiotherapy procedures in the context o

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a neurological condition that affects musculoskeletal system causing altered balance control, which is governed by constant adjustments by muscular activity and joint positioning. Since the foot is the platform upon which we stand and balance, it is important to study and characterize foot posture abnormalities in CP to better understand their possible effect on multidirectional limits of stability (MDLS) in standing. Our aim was to find relation between foot posture and MDLS in diplegic children. Thirty diplegics (13 pes-planus and 17 pes-cavus) between the age of 6 to

BACKGROUND: Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common birth defect, affecting 1% of children who are born in the United States each year. Children with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a type of critical CHD, are at high risk for neurodevelopmental disabilities, which are conditions that can affect motor, language, and cognitive development. In children with critical CHD, the severity and prevalence of their motor delays is most pronounced in infancy.
CASE DESCRIPTION: We present a case of a former late preterm male with hypoplastic left heart syndrome and history of hypoxic ischemic

CASE: A 13-year-old adolescent boy with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy (CP) presented with crouch gait and bilateral knee flexion contractures (KFCs). After failure of conservative treatments, the patient was referred to orthopaedics for surgical intervention. Anterior distal femoral hemiepiphysiodesis (ADFH), using a retrograde approach, and Strayer gastrocnemius recession were performed bilaterally. No complications were reported during surgery/follow-up. Full-active knee extension and improved gait were achieved.
CONCLUSION: KFC is prevalent in ambulatory patients with CP, reducing gait f

BACKGROUND: Children diagnosed with spastic diplegic Cerebral Palsy (CP) usually demonstrate hypertonicity of the lower limb muscles which affects the normal alignments and weight reception by the feet. These impairments could be correlated to the limitations in gross motor function such as standing and walking abilities. Understanding these relationships can contribute to developing more effective rehabilitation strategies and improving overall motor outcomes for affected children.
OBJECTIVE: The current study was designed to explore the relationship between plantar surface area, weight dist

INTRODUCTION: Proximal humerus fractures are prevalent, especially among the elderly, and pose significant challenges in treatment, particularly for displaced fractures. Despite the availability of various surgical techniques, outcomes remain inconsistent, often due to poor anatomical reduction and fixation. This study examines the correlation between specific radiographic parameters and functional outcomes, aiming to identify key predictors of recovery. By focusing on these parameters, we aim to refine surgical approaches and improve follow-up strategies, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of neurological disorders that affect movement, muscle tone, and motor skills. Here, we present a case of an 11-year-old female patient who presented with tightness in both lower limbs, since birth, and delayed walking, accompanied by difficulty walking due to spasticity. She was diagnosed with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy. This case highlights the combined use of palliative and rehabilitative care. Developmental milestones were delayed, and she was diagnosed with CP at an early age. A comprehensive treatment plan was implemented, including physical therapy, s
