An In Vivo Wireless Passive Electrical Stimulation Device for Promoting Axon Regeneration and Enhancing Sensory Afferents After Contralateral Seventh Nerve Transfer Surgery.

CC7 (contralateral cervical seventh nerve transfer) is an effective treatment for spastic hemiplegia caused by brain injury. After stroke, contralateral C7 nerve transfer facilitates the transmission of sensory information from the affected upper limb to the intact cerebral hemisphere. This process promotes cortical reorganization and ultimately enhances motor function recovery in the paralyzed limb. However, there is no effective method to accelerate motor function recovery and enhance sensory input following CC7 surgery. Electrical stimulation has been proposed as a valuable solution for ner

Enhancing symptom relief and quality of life in patients with stroke-induced spastic hemiplegia: a comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis of acupuncture modalities' effectiveness.

BACKGROUND: Stroke survivors often experience diminished quality of life due to physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges. While rehabilitative interventions are considered the cornerstone of treatment for stroke recovery, complementary therapies, such as acupuncture, herbal, or aroma therapies, have also gained recognition for their potential to enhance post-stroke recovery. METHODS: A comprehensive search of electronic databases yielded 30 studies meeting the inclusion criteria. Studies employing acupuncture and rehabilitation interventions, alone or in combination, were included. Quali

Intersegmental dynamics imbalance in gait impairments of children with spastic hemiplegia: insights from different torque contribution.

BACKGROUND: Challenges in the rehabilitation of gait impairments among children with spastic hemiplegia (CSH) suggest significant difficulties in controlling lower limb intersegmental dynamics (ISD), which may be closely associated with underlying proprioceptive and neuromuscular impairments. To quantify the ISD imbalance of lower limb in CSH, we developed a novel protocol utilizing motion capture and kinetic analysis to assess multi-joint torque contributions during the gait cycle. METHODS: In this prospective, hospital and school-based, case-control study, 21 typically developing children (a

Interactive Virtual Ankle Movement Controlled by Wrist sEMG Improves Motor Imagery: An Exploratory Study.

Virtual reality (VR) techniques can significantly enhance motor imagery training by creating a strong illusion of action for central sensory stimulation. In this article, we establish a precedent by using surface electromyography (sEMG) of contralateral wrist movement to trigger virtual ankle movement through an improved data-driven approach with a continuous sEMG signal for fast and accurate intention recognition. Our developed VR interactive system can provide feedback training for stroke patients in the early stages, even if there is no active ankle movement. Our objectives are to evaluate:

Effects of anterior sciatic nerve acupuncture on lower limb paralysis after cerebral infarction: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

Stroke is the main cause of disability in the middle and old age. Hemiplegia, especially lower limb paralysis, often leads to the loss of self-care ability and a series of secondary injuries. The main method to improve hemiplegic limb movement is exercise therapy, but there are still many patients with disabilities after rehabilitation treatment. As one of the non-pharmacological therapies for stroke, acupuncture has been recognized to improve motor function in patients. Here, we propose a new method, anterior sciatic nerve acupuncture, which can stimulate both the femoral nerve and the sciati

Recurrent stroke in a reproductive age women with patent foramen ovale.

BACKGROUND: Patent foramen ovale (PFO) is a known cause of ischemic stroke in young adults and combined oral contraceptives (COCs) are widely used by women of reproductive age. If young women with PFO are taking COCs, they may be subjected to a synergistic increase in the occurrence of stroke, though reports of ischemic stroke in this population are rare. We report a woman of reproductive age who was taking COC suffered repetitive ischemic strokes before a patent foramen ovale (PFO) was detected and closed, which may raise concerns in this field. CASE PRESENTATION: A 31-year-old woman present
