In an attempt to elucidate the ECG changes associated with the SCMS, we have applied the propranolol test in 35 of our patients suffering from this syndrome. To the best of our knowledge this is the first such report in the English literature. Twenty-eight patients showed improvement and this points against an ischemic etiology. The test may be applied to differentiate ischemic ST-T changes from those associated with the SCMS. Modern radionuclide techniques of joint imaging involve the use of either 99mTc-pertechnetate or 99mTc-phosphate compounds in conjunction with the Anger camera. On the basis of positive results obtained in the treatment of Sudeck's atrophy with calcitonin, the authors extended their investigation to other forms of localised osteoporosis. Six patients were examined affected by osteoporosis secondary to immobilisation, three patients with osteoporosis of the lower limbs from paralysis of the sciatic nerve and six patients with migrant osteoporosis. In addition to the classical description of involvement of the cervical sympathetic in low root lesions (Claude Bernard-Horner syndrome), other sympathetic syndromes have been described accompanying the motor and sensory changes in obstetrical paralysis of the upper limb. Loss of sweat secretion can be deomonstrated by electrical skin resistance tests, and the authors describe their apparatus and method of investigating this in the newborn. Although sweat secretion is often scanty in the newborn, it can be enhanced with appropriate techniques, particularly in the areas richer in sweat glands.

30 parotid biopsies of patients with sialadenosis--a symmetrical, painless, non-inflammatory, recurrent parotid swelling--were studied by electron microscopy. The patients suffered from different diseases, such as diabetes mellitus, liver diseases, hypertension and other affections. Parotid biopsies from 25 patients with slight parotitis or with oral cancer were used as controls. Morphometric studies reveal that the parotid swelling is caused by an enlargement of acinar cells. Three patients with high spinal lesions, admitted to the hospital for cystoscopy and lithotripsy, showed signs of severe hypertension due to mass reflex during this operation. This symptom was controlled with an intravenous drip of Arfonade¿, and the patients felt quite comfortable without any other anaesthesia. Other possibilities for handling such patients are discussed.

Anesthesia and anti-depressors have a bad name: is their reputation justified? In the opinion of the Anesthesiologist, it is justified in a large part concerning the IMAO, because there is no absolutely secure solution in large scale surgery. On the other hand, the value of accidents must be reset in its proper place. Only the hypertensive increase is very worrying, not so the drop in tension, and it is often the therapeutical gesture which induces the catastrophe. As far as the tricyles are concerned, they never lead to real problems, if we are aware of the treatment to be applied.

The pathology of primary familia amyloidosis with polyneuropathy is described on the basis of post-mortem examination of six cases from Northern Sweden. Two cases of idiopathic orthostatic hypotension are reported, one associated with striato-nigral degeneration (case 1) and the other with Lewy body parkinsonism (case 2).
