Spontaneous Spinal Subdural Hematoma Associated With Rivaroxaban and Aspirin Use: A Report of a Rare Case.

A spontaneous spinal subdural hematoma (SSSH) is a rare but potentially deadly condition characterized by the presence of blood in the subdural space, commonly causing compression of the spinal cord and acute neurological deficits. Urgent surgical intervention with a decompressive laminectomy is warranted to avoid lasting deficits. The literature on this pathology is scarce, and the etiology is still poorly understood, although associations have been established with arteriovenous malformations, rupture of epidural vessels, and anticoagulant use, among others. This study presents the case of a

AL amyloidosis manifesting as a vertebral amyloidoma secondary to an unrecognized plasmacytoma expressing cyclin D1 case report.

INTRODUCTION: Immunoglobin-related (AL) amyloidosis is the production of amyloidogenic immunoglobulin light chains from clonal plasma cells or, rarely, B-cell lymphomas with plasmacytic differentiation. Amyloid deposition causes progressive end organ destruction with profound morbidity. PRESENTATION OF CASE: We present a rare case of a lambda light chain AL amyloidoma localized to a thoracic vertebra of an 87-year-old woman who had a remote history of an unspecified non-Hodgkin B-cell lymphoma (NHL). Our patient presented with upper extremity neuropathy and was found by MRI to have a malignan

Five-year outcomes of endovascular treatment for aortic dissection from the Global Registry for Endovascular Aortic Treatment.

OBJECTIVE: The Global Registry for Endovascular Aortic Treatment (GREAT) is an International prospective multicenter registry collecting real-world data on performance of Gore aortic endografts. The purpose was to analyze the long-term outcomes and patient survival rates, as well as device performance in patients undergoing thoracic endovascular aortic repair for acute and chronic and complicated or uncomplicated type B aortic dissection (TBAD). METHODS: From August 2010 to October 2016, 5014 patients were enrolled in the GREAT registry. The study population were patients treated with thoraci

Endovascular treatment for thoracic aortic disease from the Global Registry for Endovascular Aortic Treatment.

OBJECTIVE: Global Registry for Endovascular Aortic Treatment (GREAT) is an international prospective multicenter registry collecting real-world data on performance of W. L. Gore thoracic and abdominal aortic endografts. This analysis evaluated the long-term differences in patient survival and device performance in patients undergoing thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) for any thoracic aortic pathology. METHODS: From August 2010 to October 2016, 5014 patients were enrolled in GREAT. The population of interest was comprised of only patients treated for thoracic aortic pathologies. Thro

Acute spinal cord compression in the setting of chronic extramedullary hematopoiesis of the thoracic spine.

BACKGROUND: Though rare, pathologic extramedullary hematopoiesis (EMH) can occur in response to myeloproliferative disorders and may present as paravertebral masses. CASE DESCRIPTION: We describe a 63-year-old female with unspecified thalassemia, hemochromatosis, and known asymptomatic extramedullary hematopoiesis of the thoracic spine who acutely developed severe spinal cord compression and a T9 vacuum phenomenon fracture 7 months after her initial diagnosis. OUTCOME: The patient was treated with urgent decompression and T9 kyphoplasty, which resulted in complete resolution of her neurologi

Angiosarcoma arising in schwannoma of cerebellopontine angle and later associating with meningioma in a patient with neurofibromatosis type 2.

Here, we describe an extremely rare case of angiosarcoma arising in schwannoma of the cerebellopontine angle and later associating with meningioma in a patient with neurofibromatosis type 2. A 33-year-old disabled Japanese man with right drop foot after surgery for an unspecified tumor demonstrated multiple tumors, suspected to be schwannoma, in the bilateral cerebellopontine angles, the cervical and lumbar spinal cord, and on the right nuchal skin. Also present were several tumors in the medulla and thoracic spinal cord suspected to be ependymoma or astrocytoma. The patient was diagnosed with

A retrospective study of dystocia-related vertebral fractures in neonatal calves.

Forty-seven cases of neonatal vertebral fractures/luxations occurred in a 21 year period (1967-1987). All of the fractures were located between the 11th thoracic vertebra and the fourth lumbar vertebra; 77% occurred at the thoracolumbar junction. All but one case was associated with a forced extraction, either unspecified (53%), mechanical (28%), or manual (17%).A weak calf or continuous recumbency since birth was the major clinical sign. Hemorrhage around the kidneys, adrenal glands, and in perivertebral muscles was a consistent necropsy finding and a useful indicator that a thoracolumbar fra
