3D CT-DCG reconstruction-informed inferior turbinate dacryocystorhinostomy in post-traumatic chronic dacryocystitis with displaced lacrimal sac.

BACKGROUND: Conventional endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) relies on the middle turbinate as a landmark for localizing the lacrimal sac. However, in post-traumatic lacrimal sac displacement, the middle turbinate approach often fails, and blind exploration may cause excessive surgical trauma. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of a three-dimensional (3D) CT-dacryocystography (CT-DCG)-guided inferior turbinate approach, utilizing the distal nasolacrimal duct as an anatomical anchor for retrograde exploration of the displaced lacrimal sac in traumatic dacryocystitis.

DPSC-EVs Drive Functional Recovery in Sjögren's Disease by Systemic Immunomodulation.

Sjögren's disease (SjD) is a debilitating autoimmune disorder characterized by progressive salivary gland destruction, for which current therapies are merely palliative. Novel therapeutic approaches focusing on immunomodulation are therefore urgently needed. Extracellular vesicles from dental pulp stem cells (DPSC-EVs) have emerged as a promising cell-free platform for systemic immunomodulation. Here, we investigated the therapeutic efficacy of DPSC-EVs in a nonobese diabetic mouse model of SjD to elucidate the mechanistic basis for their superior immunomodulatory potential compared with bone-

Immune inflammatory targets and anti-inflammatory therapy in dry eye disease.

BACKGROUND: Dry eye disease (DED) is a common category of ocular surface disease caused by insufficient tear secretion or reduced tear film quality, which leads to damage to ocular surface epithelial cells and initiates an inflammatory response, ultimately forming a vicious cycle dominated by chronic inflammation. The signaling pathways involved in DED are complex and need to be further explored. METHODS: A literature search of PubMed was conducted to identify studies on DED published between 2013 and 2026.The search strategy adopted a combination of keywords as follows: "dry eye disease", "n

Interferon-α-Driven Stratification of B Cells Reveals Metabolic Reprogramming of Double-Negative, Naïve, and Transitional Cell Subsets and Refines Molecular Classification in Sjögren's Disease.

Sjögren's disease (SjD) is a chronic autoimmune condition marked by lymphocytic infiltration of exocrine glands and production of autoantibodies such as anti-SSA/Ro, anti-SSB/La, and rheumatoid factor. B lymphocytes play a central role in disease pathogenesis, driving autoantibody production and glandular damage, and contributing to lymphomagenesis. Despite promising therapies, no effective treatment is currently available, partly due to the biological and clinical heterogeneity of the disease. While interferon (IFN) signatures and B cell-related markers are used for patient stratification, th

Understanding the molecular basis of Sjögren's disease using omic technologies.

Primary Sjögren's disease (SjD) is a chronic autoimmune disease (AD) that primarily affects the exocrine glands, particularly lacrimal and salivary glands, presenting extra glandular manifestations in a significant number of patients. Although it is a prevalent and globally widespread disease, its pathogenesis has not been fully elucidated. Recently, high-throughput omics technologies are providing unprecedented insights into the molecular landscape of various ADs, including SjD. These technical advances are prepared to decipher new aspects of its pathogenesis and to eventually enable the deve

Genetic Evidence for Causal Effects of Lipid-lowering Drug Targets on Primary Sjögren's Syndrome Risk: A Mendelian Randomization Study.

INTRODUCTION: Primary Sjögren's Syndrome (pSS) is a chronic autoimmune condition affecting lacrimal and salivary glands. While previous studies suggest potential associations between dyslipidemia and autoimmune diseases, the causal relationship between lipid-lowering medications and pSS remains unclear. METHODS: This study employed drug-targeted Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to assess the impact of lipid-lowering drugs on pSS risk, focusing on genetic targets including HMGCR, PCSK9, NPC1L1, APOB, CETP, and LDLR. Data were sourced from the Global Lipids Genetics Consortium and UK Bioba

Single-Cell Spatial Transcriptomic of Sjögren's Disease Salivary Glands.

Sjögren's Disease (SjD) presents a challenge as a chronic, progressive, and systemic autoimmune disorder affecting approximately 0.05% of the population. SjD primarily targets exocrine glands, leading to severe dryness of the mouth and eyes, but can impact multiple organs and increase lymphoma risk. Despite advances in B cell-targeted therapies, no cure exists, and treatment remains symptom-focused, highlighting gaps in our understanding of SjD inflammatory environment. One roadblock to study the heterogeneity of the landscape in affected salivary glands in humans is the limited amount of tiss

The 'target tissues' as orchestrators of autoimmune responses: the paradigm of Sjögren's syndrome.

Systemic autoimmune diseases have been traditionally studied with a special focus on the immune system and less attention was paid to the roles of target tissues that are being exposed to the immune assault. For many common autoimmune diseases accumulating data unravel and highlight the potential role of the target tissues as orchestrators of the autoimmune responses. In this selective review, using Sjögren's disease (SjD) as a paradigm, we discuss the role of salivary gland epithelial cells (SGEC) not as innocent bystander targets of autoimmune responses, but rather as initiators and amplifie

Assessing the mineral accretion technique (MAT) for marine benthic restoration: a scoping review highlighting procedural weaknesses and evidence gaps.

BACKGROUND: Marine ecosystems are undergoing rapid degradation, highlighting the need for conservation and active restoration measures to halt and potentially reverse biodiversity and functional losses. The Mineral Accretion Technique (MAT), which combines artificial reef construction with seawater electrolysis, has recently gained interest as a restoration tool to enhance benthic recovery. However, the scientific evidence supporting its effectiveness remains limited and inconclusive. With the present scoping review, we aim to: (i) consolidate the existing scientific literature on MATs; (ii) a

Integrated transcriptomic and epigenomic profiling reveals conserved molecular subtypes across systemic autoimmune diseases.

OBJECTIVES: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) frequently share overlapping clinical features, yet exhibit substantial intradisease heterogeneity in organ involvement and severity. This study aimed to define conserved molecular subtypes across these systemic autoimmune diseases (SADs) and delineate their transcriptional and epigenetic underpinnings. METHODS: We profiled 262 treatment-naïve Chinese Han patients (RA: n = 109; SLE: n = 69; pSS: n = 84), predominantly female (83.2%), who were divided into discovery (n = 119) and val

Clinical and molecular characterization of ILD in patients with overlapping ASyS and SjD: a retrospective observational study.

OBJECTIVE: Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is a frequent complication in both anti-synthetase syndrome (ASyS) and primary Sjögren's disease (pSjD), but the clinical and molecular phenotype of patients with overlapping ASyS and pSjD (ASyS-SjD) remains poorly defined. This study aimed to characterize the clinical, serological, radiological and transcriptomic features of ASyS-SjD patients with ILD, and to determine whether this overlap represents a distinct disease entity. METHODS: We retrospectively analysed 131 ASyS, 78 pSjD and 42 ASyS-SjD patients from the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjin
