The Association Between Acne Vulgaris, Acne Vulgaris with Nonspecific Facial Dermatitis, and Demodex Mite Presence.

BACKGROUND: Demodex mites can lead to various skin disorders, from non-specific dermatitis to conditions that mimic other diseases, making it challenging to diagnose accurately. Additionally, it has been reported that Demodex mites can cause skin conditions such as perioral dermatitis, pustular folliculitis, pityriasis folliculorum, blepharitis, and rosacea. Due to conflicting studies, there is a debate regarding the link between Demodex mites and acne vulgaris. This study aims to determine the prevalence of Demodex mites on the faces of individuals with acne vulgaris, acne with nonspecific fa

Uncommon Blepharitis.

Blepharitis is a common chronic inflammatory condition affecting the eyelid margins; the pathophysiology of blepharitis is complex and not fully understood. The disease is anatomically divided into anterior (inflammation of eyelashes) and posterior (meibomian gland dysfunction) types. Diagnosis relies on clinical examination, revealing characteristic features like scurf, vascular changes, and meibomian gland dysfunction. The main goals of blepharitis treatment are symptom relief, recurrence prevention, and complication risk minimization. Treatment options include lid hygiene, topical and syste

Double-Blind Comparison of Eyelash Epilation Techniques for the Purpose of Demodex folliculorum Mite Retrieval.

OBJECTIVE: Demodex folliculorum blepharitis is typically confirmed with lash epilation and microscopic identification of mites. However, mite counts may vary with the epilation technique. As there is no gold standard to epilating lashes for the purposes of mite counts, the aim of this study was to compare three epilation techniques. METHOD: A prospective randomized double-blind study compared three epilation techniques on lashes with cylindrical dandruff. Techniques included (A) direct pulling of the lash; (B) rotating the lash before epilation; and (C) sliding the cylindrical dandruff away,

Eyelid margin disease (blepharitis and meibomian gland dysfunction): clinical review of evidence-based and emerging treatments.

Blepharitis is a common ophthalmic condition with multiple etiologies and no definitive, universal treatment. The treatment modalities for managing lid margin diseases vary depending on the disease's cause, location, and severity. For anterior blepharitis, management options include eyelid hygiene with warm compresses, eyelid scrubs, baby shampoo, and over-the-counter eyelid cleansers. Topical antibiotics and antibiotic-steroid combination drops/ointments for the eye and eyelid may accompany these. For posterior blepharitis/meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), at-home warm compress or in-office

BACKGROUND: Demodex blepharitis (DB) is a common disease of the ocular surface. The characteristics of the bacterial community in eyelash roots after Demodex infestation are still unknown. Knowledge of the characteristics of the bacterial community of eyelash follicles in patients with DB can provide valuable insights for guiding the diagnosis and treatment of DB. METHODS: Twenty-five patients with DB (DB group) and 21 non-DB volunteers (control group) were enrolled in the study. Eyelashes from the upper eyelid of the right eye were sampled, and 16S ribosomal DNA (rDNA) sequencing was perform

A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of the Safety and Efficacy of 0.25% Lotilaner Ophthalmic Solution in the Treatment of Demodex Blepharitis.

Demodex blepharitis is marked by an excessive presence of Demodex mites on the eyelids, particularly in the lash follicles. While these microscopic mites are a natural component of the skin microbiota, their overabundance can lead to ocular complications. Symptoms associated with Demodex blepharitis include eyelid itching, inflammation, and ocular irritation. Our objective is to investigate Lotilaner as a potential treatment for Demodex blepharitis, assessing both the safety and efficacy of the ophthalmic formula in managing this disease. We conducted research in Web of Science, PubMed, Cochra

XdemvyTM (Lotilaner Ophthalmic Solution) 0.25% Topical Solution for the Treatment of Demodex Blepharitis.

XdemvyTM (lotilaner ophthalmic solution) 0.25% topical solution was recently approved for the treatment of Demodex blepharitis in adults aged ≥18 years. As an antiparasitic agent, lotilaner selectively inhibits gamma-aminobutyric acid chloride channels specific to the parasite and induces spastic paralysis, leading to death of Demodex blepharitis mites. In two randomized, double-masked, vehicle-controlled, multi-center, phase-3 clinical trials (Saturn-1 and Satuirn-2), lotilaner 0.25% topical solution was investigated for the treatment of Demodex blepharitis. Patients were assigned to receive
