These SAEs have remained unclear and a programmatic impediment to the advancement of community directed treatment with ivermectin. PURPOSE: To present a long-term follow-up of Bietti crystalline dystrophy.
METHODS: Two brothers are presented including the clinical findings, fluorescein angiography, electrophysiology (electroretinography [ERG], electrooculography [EOG], adaptometry), optical coherence tomography (OCT), and transmission electron microscopy of bulbar conjunctiva and peripheral blood lymphocytes. The aim of this paper was to evaluate the ocular findings in patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) undergoing haemodialysis (HD). In 64 patients undergoing haemodialysis (30 female and 34 male), aged 24-83 years (mean 58 years) on haemodialysis 1-213 months (mean 47 months) complete ocular examination were performed: visual acuity (VA), intraocular pressure (IOP), biomicroscopic examination and fundoscopy. On right eye sixty-nine percent of patents had VA 0.6 or better, and on left eye 84% of patients had VA 0.6 or better. Mean IOP before dialysis was 15 mmHg and after dialysis was 14 mmHg

We investigated whether amyloid deposition can affect retinal atrophy in old SAMR1, SAMP1 and BALB/c mice. In a series of 98 consecutive eyeballs enucleated at postmortem from 86 patients dying with AIDS, the incidence of calcium deposits was 14 and 18.6%, respectively, for oxalates and calcium hydroxyapatite. The calcific eyes were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray microanalysis to confirm the elemental nature of the precipitates. PURPOSE: The eyelids of 15 AIDS patients (17 specimens) were examined histologically at postmortem.
METHODS: Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded and haematoxylin-eosin stained sections were examined by conventional light microscopy. The presence of calcific deposits was confirmed by special stains and elemental analysis (X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy).

BACKGROUND: In patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) on regular dialysis treatment, limboconjunctival degeneration and calcifications are common. The mechanisms of ectopic conjunctival and corneal calcification remain largely speculative. We experienced a case of crystalline retinopathy with crystalline deposits in the cornea and the limbal conjunctiva, and performed histological studies of the cornea, conjunctiva and peripheral blood cells. The patient was a 45-year-old man who had no abnormality in hematological studies and urinalysis. In the fundus diffuse atrophy of the retinal pigment epithelium and patchy foci of choroidal atrophy were observed, and sparkling yellowish-white spots were scattered, chiefly in the posterior region. Fluorescein angiography showed neither hyperfluorescence nor hypofluorescence at these spots.

Fifty children with culture proven acute meningococcaemia were studied during the winter outbreak of the disease in 1986-87.
