Transmission and therapeutic modalities on condyloma acuminata in children: a case report.

This case report presents a unique instance of condyloma acuminata in a one-year-old child, which adds to the scientific literature by highlighting the potential for non-sexual transmission in pediatric patients. The child exhibited a rapidly enlarging, skin-colored lump around the anus, initially a small bump that soon resembled a cauliflower. Acetowhite testing was positive, and histopathological examination revealed hyperkeratosis, acanthosis, and papillomatosis, leading to the diagnosis of condyloma acuminata. The main therapeutic intervention involved the application of 90% trichloroaceti

Therapeutic Trajectories of Kenyan Queer Men with Anal Warts: Iatrogenesis in a Time of Homophobia.

Human papillomavirus (HPV)-related anal infection is high among African gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM). In Kenya, queer men living with HPV-related anal warts often avoid health facilities, fearing homophobic retaliation from providers. In this paper, we present data collected over 24 months of ethnographic research, foregrounding the therapeutic trajectories of 35 men with advanced cases of anal warts requiring surgical intervention. The therapeutic trajectories we present here help to make visible how iatrogenesis exceeds the clinic's socio-spatial, temporal, and in

Beyond the application site: A case of imiquimod-induced cytokine-mediated systemic symptoms.

Topical imiquimod is widely used for the treatment of external anogenital warts due to its potent immunomodulatory effects. Although local skin reactions are common, systemic side effects are rare and under-recognized. We describe the case of a 23-year-old male who developed recurrent, cytokine-mediated systemic symptoms-including fever, myalgias, and malaise-within hours of each application of imiquimod 5% cream to condylomata acuminata on the glans penis and inner prepuce. The lesions were located on non-keratinized, highly vascular mucosal surfaces, likely facilitating enhanced percutaneous

Evaluating cost-effectiveness of 9-valent HPV vaccination for men who have sex with men by HIV status in Hong Kong.

BACKGROUND: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection and a leading cause of anal cancer and genital warts, particularly among men who have sex with men (MSM). In Hong Kong, HPV vaccination is currently only offered to school-aged girls, despite the high burden of HPV-related diseases among MSM, especially those living with HIV. Existing cost-effectiveness evaluations of HPV vaccination in Hong Kong primarily focus on female-only strategies and heterosexual men without accounting for differences in HPV infection risks among MSM. In contrast, countries such as

Genital verruciform xanthoma: A rare differential to genital warts.

Verruciform xanthoma is a rare, benign mucocutaneous growth, usually seen in the oral cavity, but uncommonly also seen on genital skin. It presents as a flat or raised skin lesion, varying in colour with an irregular surface. These lesions can mimic stigmata of sexually transmitted infections such HPV-genital warts, condyloma latum or cause concern for inflammatory or malignant conditions, with histopathology being crucial for diagnosis and to avoid anxiety or invasive procedures. Underlying cause of these lesions remains uncertain, but no link to HPV has been identified. We present an 89 year

NELL2-Robo3 signaling promotes keratinocyte proliferation and inhibits keratinocyte apoptosis in condyloma acuminatum through autocrine and paracrine mechanisms.

BACKGROUND: Condyloma acuminatum (CA) is caused by low-risk HPV infection and characterized by benign epithelial proliferation. NELL2, as a secreted glycoprotein, is strongly linked to dermatosis, but its function in CA remains unknown. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the expression, function and mechanism of NELL2 in CA. METHODS: The expression of NELL2 was detected in CA and normal skin tissues. HaCaT cells stably expressing HPV11-E7 (HPV11-E7-HaCaT) and control group (Vector-HaCaT) were constructed to explore the relationship between HPV infection and NELL2 expression. We downregulated NELL2 ex

Human papillomavirus: An update.

Human papillomaviruses (HPV) comprise a group of DNA viruses with more than 450 types identified. HPV represents one of the most common viral infections globally. HPV can cause a wide spectrum of clinical disease depending on type, including benign lesions (cutaneous or anogenital warts), premalignant lesions (intraepithelial neoplasia), and anogenital cancers; however, infection may also frequently remain subclinical. Even though the role of HPV in the pathogenesis of penile, vulval, and anal intraepithelial neoplasia and other cutaneous diseases has been recognized, robust evidence for the r

HPV42 - a human papillomavirus classified as a low-risk type with oncogenic potential.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) type 42 is a rare HPV type currently classified as "low-risk" and belongs to the alpha genus. It has primarily been detected in benign vulvar papillomas and is predominantly associated with benign lesions such as anogenital warts. However, in very rare cases, HPV42 has also been identified in invasive genital tumors, particularly cervical carcinomas. In the case series presented here, HPV42 was detected in anogenital warts, a digital squamous cell carcinoma in situ, and a lymphogenously metastasized digital papillary adenocarcinoma (DPA). In the latter tumor entity,

Changes in the vaginal microbiome in female patients with condyloma acuminatum and its impact on persistent HPV infection.

Condyloma acuminatum (CA) is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases, and is characterized by a long incubation period and a high recurrence rate. The vaginal microbiome significantly impacts female reproductive health, influencing susceptibility to human papillomavirus (HPV) infections and related conditions such as CA. However, the role of the vaginal microbiome in the development of CA, especially regarding persistent HPV infection and CA recurrence, remains unclear. We aimed to investigate changes in the vaginal microbiota among female patients with vaginal CA and to determine

Health impact and cost-effectiveness analysis of gender-neutral versus female-only 9-valent human papillomavirus vaccination in Taiwan.

The prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV)-related diseases in women has declined in countries introducing HPV vaccinations for girls but remains high among men. The objective of this study was to compare the health impact and cost-effectiveness of two HPV vaccination strategies in the pre-adolescent Taiwanese population: nonavalent (9vHPV) gender-neutral vaccination (GNV), and 9vHPV female-only vaccination (FOV). A previously validated dynamic transmission model was adapted to the Taiwanese setting. The model had a 100-year time horizon and assumed an 85% vaccination coverage rate for girls

Can inflammation predict recurrence? A study on genital warts in men.

BackgroundRecurrence of genital warts remains a significant clinical challenge despite various treatment options. Systemic inflammatory indices derived from routine blood counts, such as the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), have recently been investigated as potential prognostic markers in HPV-related diseases.MethodsThis retrospective study included 217 male patients who underwent electrocauterisation for penoscrotal warts between March and September 2024. Patients were classified as having primary or recur

Knowledge and Perception of Human Papillomavirus in Quilombola Communities in Northeast Brazil.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a DNA virus responsible for one of the most common sexually transmitted infections worldwide. Poor and low knowledge of the vaccine's efficacy, security, and existence is still a barrier to vaccination, especially in low and middle-income countries. This cross-sectional study analyzed knowledge about HPV among 307 adults in quilombola communities in northeast Brazil. The questions were about HPV, transmission, prevention, and relation with genital warts and cervical cancer. Data presentation used absolute and relative frequency. Chi-Square or Fisher's Exact tests

Condylomata acuminata in the neovagina and vulva with HPV6/18 infection in a patient with Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome after sheares' vaginoplasty: a case report and systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome patients who undergo vaginoplasty are at risk of developing HPV-related lesions throughout their life, from low risk condylomata acuminata (CA) to cancerous lesions. However, the HPV status of neovaginal lesion in this patient group were often undocumented. We reported a case of CA, with HPV type 6 and 18 positive, affecting both the neovagina and vulva in a MRKH patient who underwent vaginoplasty (12 months ago). Additionally, we explore the relationship between HPV infection and neovaginal lesions through a review of current literatu
