Case Report: Orbital and intracranial inflammatory syndrome in rheumatoid arthritis.

PURPOSE: To describe a case of rheumatoid arthritis (RA)-associated orbital and intracranial inflammatory disorder (OIID). BACKGROUND: RA is a systemic autoimmune disease associated with a multitude of extra-articular manifestations. Cigarette smoking increases the risk of RA vasculitis and adversely influences the expression of the proto-oncogene p53 in RA. Although ocular manifestations of RA are well known, orbital and intracranial inflammatory presentations are much less common. CASE PRESENTATION: A 63-year-old woman with seropositive RA and a significant tobacco smoking history presente

Emerging RNA-Based Therapeutic Strategies for Inflammatory Ophthalmic Disorders of the Anterior Segment: Mechanistic Insights and Translational Potential.

Anterior segment ocular inflammatory disorders, including conjunctivitis, keratitis, scleritis, dry eye disease, and anterior uveitis, represent a major cause of visual impairment worldwide. Conventional pharmacological therapies such as antihistamines, corticosteroids, and immunomodulators primarily provide symptomatic relief but are limited by their adverse effects, poor long-term efficacy, and lack of disease-modifying potential. In this review, RNA-based therapeutics are discussed in detail, emerging as promising and targeted approaches for modulating the molecular mechanisms underlying oc

Mucoadhesive and ROS-responsive polymeric vesicles for anti-angiogenic therapy in corneal neovascularization.

Corneal neovascularization (CNV) is a major cause of visual impairment worldwide and results from disruption of the cornea's angiogenic privilege by excessive angiogenic signaling and oxidative stress. Current clinical management relies on corticosteroids, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or anti-VEGF injections, yet these approaches often provide incomplete efficacy and are associated with adverse effects, invasiveness, or limited patient compliance. In this study, we developed a multifunctional polymeric vesicle platform, termed PPM, to address these limitations through combined anti-an

Ocular Manifestations in Rheumatic Diseases.

Ocular involvement is common in systemic rheumatic diseases and may precede or reflect systemic activity, serving as an important diagnostic clue. Inflammation can affect any ocular structure, with presentations ranging from mild to vision-threatening. Early recognition is critical, as ocular findings can guide diagnosis and management. A systematic approach combining clinical evaluation, imaging, and laboratory testing is essential to identify disease-specific patterns. Advances in immunomodulatory and biologic therapies have improved outcomes. Optimal care requires a multidisciplinary approa

[Case series: anterior and posterior manifestations of scleritis].

Scleritis is a potentially sight-threatening inflammation with a broad spectrum of anterior and posterior manifestations. In addition to characteristic pain and the risk of scleral thinning, posterior segment involvement is of particular clinical importance. It may cause rapid visual deterioration and present with findings suggestive of other inflammatory, vascular, or neuro-ophthalmic disorders, including venous stasis and neuroretinitis. This case series illustrates anterior and posterior manifestations of scleritis, with particular emphasis on retinal and optic disc involvement. These cases
