Granulomatosis With Polyangiitis: A Rare Cause of Recurrent Breast Abscesses.

This case report highlights the importance of recognizing granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) as a rare but potential cause of recurrent granulomatous mastitis and breast abscesses. The case report describes a patient who presented with recurrent breast abscesses over many years, initially misdiagnosed as infectious mastitis, until a breast tissue biopsy revealed granulomatous inflammation. Further evaluation confirmed the diagnosis of GPA based on elevated anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA). The authors emphasize that, while breast involvement is exceedingly rare in GPA, it shou

Efficacy and safety of Janus kinase inhibitors in non-infectious inflammatory ocular diseases: a prospective cohort study from the international AIDA network registries.

INTRODUCTION: Non-infectious inflammatory ocular diseases pose significant challenges in diagnosis and management, often requiring systemic immunosuppressive therapy. Since Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors may represent a novel therapeutic option for these disorders, the present study aimed to expand current knowledge about their efficacy and safety in patients with these conditions. METHODS: This prospective cohort study included 12 adult patients from the international AutoInflammatory Disease Alliance (AIDA) Network registries dedicated to non-infectious ocular inflammatory conditions. We ass

[Purulent scleritis following penetrating keratoplasty for acanthamoeba keratitis].

The problem of treating purulent scleral infections, rare but extremely severe complication of ophthalmic surgeries, remains unresolved. This article presents a case of successful surgical treatment of purulent scleritis - interlamellar scleral abscess - that developed in a patient after repeat penetrating keratoplasty performed due to infectious lysis of the transplant. Although the first keratoplasty was performed for acanthamoeba keratitis, there were no signs of acanthamoeba invasion in the transplant at the time of the second surgery. Scleritis manifested as an infiltrate with pus penetra

Temporomandibular Joint Disorder and Anterior Scleritis as Initial Presentations of Undiagnosed Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune inflammatory process that involves multiple organ systems. While symmetric joint swelling of the extremities are the most widely recognized symptoms, the disease can present in a myriad of different ways, of which scleritis and temporomandibular involvement are less recognized manifestations. While scleritis and temporomandibular disorder (TMD) may at times present in isolation, it is critical to consider their strong association with autoimmune disease as it allows for early diagnosis of inflammatory conditions and allow for the formulation of tailored tr

Internal Jugular Vein Thrombosis as the Initial Presentation of Antiphospholipid Antibody-positive Vascular Behçet Disease: A Clinical Image.

Internal jugular vein (IJV) thrombosis is a rare and potentially life-threatening condition commonly caused by central venous catheter insertion, malignant tumors, and neck infections. A 45-year-old woman with an unremarkable medical history presented with left neck pain. Imaging studies of a suspected mediastinal tumor revealed IJV thrombosis. No malignancy was identified by imaging or upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. Despite suspicion of antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APS) and treatment with warfarin, subsequent testing did not provide conclusive evidence for a definitive diagnosis of

Occlusive retinal vasculitis and scleritis following brolucizumab treatment: A case report.

RATIONALE: Brolucizumab is an anti-vascular endothelial growth factor agent. Clinical trials have demonstrated excellent efficacy of brolucizumab for neovascular age-related macular degeneration in terms of both visual and anatomic outcomes. However, compared with conventional anti-vascular endothelial growth factor therapy, this new treatment has a higher incidence of complications, particularly the development of occlusive retinal vasculitis. In this case report, we describe a patient who developed occlusive retinal vasculitis following brolucizumab treatment for age-related macular degenera
