Unmasking an unusual presentation of Hodgkin's lymphoma masquerading as ocular inflammation: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) is an extremely rare cause of ocular inflammation that is usually not considered in the typical workup of uveitis and other eye diseases. A few cases of ocular inflammation were reported previously showcasing HL with absence of typical symptoms of HL at presentation. Acknowledging the potential ocular inflammation associated with HL can prompt ophthalmologists to broaden their diagnostic approach and collaborate with internal medicine departments to investigate this rare yet significant etiology. CASE PRESENTATION: A 17-year-old Caucasian woman presenting u

Scleral Lenses for Managing Dry Eye Disease in the Absence of Corneal Irregularities: What Is the Current Evidence?

Scleral lenses (SLs) are large-diameter rigid contact lenses that are a mainstay treatment for eyes with corneal irregularities. In recent years, there has been increased interest in the role of managing dry eye disease (DED) with SLs, as many patients with DED have reported symptomatic relief with SL wear. The role of SLs for DED management when there are associated corneal irregularities is supported by individual case reports and studies. This has prompted practitioners to begin advocating using SLs in DED cases, even in the absence of associated corneal irregularities and other ocular surf

The miR-15b-5p/miR-379-3p-FOXO axis regulates cell cycle and apoptosis in scleral remodeling during experimental myopia.

BACKGROUND: Myopia is one of the most common eye diseases in children and adolescents worldwide, and scleral remodeling plays a role in myopia progression. However, the identity of the initiating factors and signaling pathways that induce myopia-associated scleral remodeling is still unclear. This study aimed to identify biomarkers of scleral remodeling to elucidate the pathogenesis of myopia. METHODS: The gene expression omnibus (GEO) and comparative toxicogenomics database (CTD) mining were used to identify the miRNA-mRNA regulatory network related to scleral remodeling in myopia. Real-time

Orbital necrobiotic xanthogranuloma with necrotizing scleritis and absent cutaneous manifestations.

Necrobiotic xanthogranuloma (NXG) is a rare systemic disease, that commonly manifests with orbital and ocular adnexal involvement, presenting with periocular yellow papules and plaques that may ulcerate. Periorbital skin lesions are a hallmark of the disease, and in their absence the diagnosis may be delayed, preventing prompt systemic evaluation and appropriate treatment of this condition. We report a unique case of a 58-year-old female patient with NXG that presented with severe bilateral necrotizing scleritis, left orbital mass and no cutaneous manifestations of NXG. This case highlights th

BOAS in the Boston Terrier: A healthier screw-tailed breed?

Brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome (BOAS) is well documented in the three most popular brachycephalic dog breeds of the UK and several other countries: French Bulldogs, Pugs and Bulldogs. More extreme conformation has been found to be associated with increased risk of BOAS and other brachycephalic disease in these breeds, such as ocular, neurological, and dental disease. Less is known about how BOAS and other brachycephalic conformation-related disease affects other breeds such as the Boston Terrier. In this study, one-hundred and seven Boston Terriers were prospectively recruited from
