In order to investigate the frequency of corneal micro-deposits of amiodarone and its relationship to age, sex, dose and treatment duration, we studied one-hundred-fifty consecutive patients from 1982 to 1986. Three pairs of donor corneas were noted to be stained yellow after dissection from the whole globe. The peripheral cornea was stained more intensely than the central cornea in each case. The biocompatibility of heparin surface modified poly(methyl methacrylate) intraocular lenses (IOLs) was evaluated in two experiments following implantation in the anterior and posterior eye chambers of adult cynomolgus monkeys. Complicated retinal detachments (RDs) were successfully managed in 150 eyes of 170 consecutive patients by one surgeon (JLF) using silicone oil in conjunction with modern pars plana vitrectomy. Long-term postoperative complications were observed between 6 months and 5 years of follow-up. Proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) involving the posterior and equatorial retina is an established clinicopathologic entity. A patient with Bietti's tapetoretinal degeneration and marginal corneal dystrophy is reported on.
