PURPOSE: To analyze the clinical presentation, predisposing risk factors, in vitro antimicrobial susceptibility, and especially the outcome of therapy of Moraxella keratitis.
METHODS: Retrospective review of 18 culture-proven cases of Morarella keratitis.
RESULTS: Morarella keratitis was associated with Hansen's disease, uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, herpes zoster ophthalmicus, and chickenpox of the recent past and severe protein energy malnutrition. PURPOSE: To evaluate the results of implanting convex, iris-fixated, anterior chamber intraocular lenses (IOLs) in phakic eyes to correct high hyperopia.
SETTING: Robert Koch Hospital, Hannover-Gehrden, Germany (Center A), and Dr. Daljit Singh Eye Hospital, Amritsar, India (Center B).
METHOD: Two eyes at Center A and 67 at Center B had implantation of an anterior chamber, convex, iris-fixated IOL. Follow-up of the 2 eyes at Center A was 91 months. Mean follow-up at Center B was 78 months +/- 24 (SD) (range 12 to 120 months).

PURPOSE: To report visually disabling postkeratoplasty astigmatism occurring 12 years after a corneal transplant for keratoconus apparently caused by pellucid marginal corneal degeneration (PMD).
METHODS: A 33-year-old woman had had a corneal transplant for keratoconus in her left eye. Twelve years later, she was referred for evaluation and management of increasingly blurred vision due to marked postkeratoplasty astigmatism.

PURPOSE: We present a report of a spontaneous corneal perforation in a patient with pellucid marginal corneal degeneration.
METHODS: We describe the presentation and management of a 74 year old male with spontaneous corneal perforation related to pellucid marginal corneal degeneration.

BACKGROUND: We report on three cases of a progressive anterior corneal degeneration with clinical characteristics of limbal insufficiency occurring in three persons in three consecutive generations of one family. The disease has not yet been described in literature.

PURPOSE: Pellucid marginal degeneration of the cornea (1,2) is an idiopathic condition characterized by noninflammatory, nonulcerative thinning of the inferior, peripheral cornea. Vitamin A (0.2 micrograms, 0.6 micrograms, 1.2 micrograms) was administered orally to the mice on days 8-11 of gestation. Fetuses were removed on day 17 of gestation. No external malformation of the fetuses was seen on the stereomicroscope investigation. Corneal degeneration was seen on the light and electron microscopic examination. As a result it was accepted that vitamin A taken during the critical periods of gestation affected the development of cornea.

PURPOSE: Pellucid marginal degeneration is a noninflammatory thinning disorder typically involving the inferior cornea. We describe a patient with superior corneal thinning similar to classic pellucid marginal degeneration.
METHODS: An 80-year-old man was evaluated for high astigmatism.
RESULTS: The right superior cornea had a prominent band of thinning with ectasia. Both inferior corneas had characteristic zones of thinning without inflammation.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the efficacy of epikeratophakia for the treatment of severe Terrien's degeneration.
METHODS: Four eyes with severe Terrien's corneal degeneration are studied. The lesions were located at the peripheral cornea and the corneal thickness was less then 1/3 of normal.
