HPV16-miR-H1 promotes proliferation, migration, and glycolysis in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma cells via the PTEN/AKT pathway.

Human papillomavirus type 16 (HPV16) is the most common type of infection in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC).The HPV16-encoded miRNA, HPV16-miR-H1, has been validated in cervical cancer tissues and cells, but its role in the pathogenesis of HNSCC remains unclear. The expression level of HPV16-miR-H1 in HNSCC cells was detected, and its mechanism of action was analyzed using bioinformatics tools and RNA sequencing. Overexpression and knockdown of HPV16-miR-H1 were performed to validate its regulatory effects on the PTEN/AKT axis and its impact on cell proliferation, migration, the

Identifying gaps in women's preventive health services for women living with HIV in Vermont.

BACKGROUND: Women living with HIV (WLHIV) in the United States experience higher rates of death from cervical and breast cancer and lower screening rates for both compared to women without HIV. These disparities highlight the need to better understand access to and uptake of women's preventive health services-particularly cervical cancer screening, breast cancer screening, and HPV vaccination. Most existing data on these services among WLHIV come from urban settings; therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate factors affecting adherence to these preventive health measures among WL

Application value of TPAS staining technique for cervical exfoliated cells in cervical cancer screening.

BACKGROUND: Recent studies have shown that tumor cell membranes exhibit lower polarity than normal cell membranes, a characteristic that can be harnessed for cancer diagnosis. TPAS (viscosity-responsive plasma membrane probe), a recently developed staining method using cell membrane polarity probes, may selectively visualize cervical cancer cells by targeting membrane polarity differences, offering a potential new approach for cervical cancer screening. To investigate the diagnostic value of TPAS staining combined with liquid-based thin-layer cytological testing (TCT) and human papillomavirus (

Incidence of loss to follow‑up among East African adults on antiretroviral therapy: a systematic review and meta‑analysis.

BACKGROUND: Individuals with human immunodeficiency virus receive antiretroviral treatment regardless of their clinical stage or CD4 count. While the "Universal Test and Treat" approach offers benefits, loss to follow-up remains a significant issue in sub-Saharan Africa, especially in East African countries, hindering treatment program goals. Due to inconsistent findings in previous studies, policymakers and healthcare providers struggle to implement effective interventions. This study aims to provide a pooled incidence of loss to follow-up among East African adults on antiretroviral therapy.

Sociostructural Determinants of Health for People Living With HIV During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Policy Brief for Future Global Health Crises.

The dual pandemics of COVID-19 and HIV have underscored critical gaps in global health policy, particularly regarding disproportionate impacts on people living with HIV, often failing to address sociostructural determinants of health (sSDoH) that fuel inequities. Nurses and other health care practitioners, possessing unique knowledge and technical capacity, are vital in advocating for policy innovations that address the civil and human rights of vulnerable populations. This policy brief, informed by historical health frameworks like the Alma-Ata Declaration and contemporary understandings of s

The Crucial Role of Loan Accessibility in Advancing HIV Care.

Nurse Practitioners have been instrumental in HIV care, driving prevention, treatment, and policy advances. Persons living with HIV now live longer and receive better care, largely due to APRNs who undertake advanced training despite high graduate loan burdens. Federal ambiguity about whether graduate nursing qualifies as a professional degree threatens access to critical loan limits, risking affordability of MSN/DNP programs and constraining the future APRN workforce. This would worsen inequities affecting communities most impacted by HIV and undermine national Ending the HIV Epidemic goals.
