Iridodialysis Repair With Intrascleral Fixation of Flattened Flanged Polypropylene Suture.

PURPOSE: To present the flattened flanged polypropylene suture technique developed to obtain round and stable pupils in patients with iridodialysis. METHODS: After performing a fornix-based conjunctival peritomy, a flange was created at the tip of a 6.0 polypropylene suture by cautery. In the quadrant of iridodialysis, an ultrathin 30-gauge needle was inserted into the sclera at a distance of 2 mm from the limbus and advanced 1.5 mm intrasclerally, parallel to the limbus. The needle was directed radially into the eye and easily passed through the edge of the peripheral iris. The polypropylene

Bilateral acute iris transillumination (BAIT) syndrome: Differential diagnosis based on clinical, OCT and UBM findings.

INTRODUCTION: Bilateral acute iris transillumination (BAIT) is a relatively new syndrome whose etiopathogenesis is still not fully understood. It is characterized by acute bilateral onset of intense pigment dispersion in the anterior chamber, iris depigmentation with severe transillumination defects, accentuated pigment deposition in the angle, and elevated intraocular pressure (IOP). In literature, the first case was of bilateral acute iris depigmentation (BADI) reported in 2004 in a 77-year-old woman. In 2019, Perone et al. published a review about BAIT syndrome. They reported a total of 79

Mendelian Randomization Study Implies Causal Linkage Between Telomere Length and Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis in a European Population.

BACKGROUND: Telomere maintenance is increasingly being considered as fundamental to the progression of immune-mediated inflammatory diseases. However, the causality underlying the purported relationship has not been fully elucidated. In the present work, we applied Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to obtain estimates of the causal effect of telomere length (TL) on the risk of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and JIA-associated iridocyclitis. METHODS: Two-sample MR analysis was conducted using summary-level data from the largest genome-wide association studies concerning TL (78,592 ind

Comparison of retinal and choroidal changes in Fuchs' uveitis syndrome.

PURPOSE: The assessment of retinal and choroidal changes in eyes with unilateral Fuchs uveitis syndrome (FUS) with the fellow eye and healthy control group. METHODS: Thirty-nine unilateral FUS patients and 42 healthy control subjects were enrolled. Spectralis domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT, Spectralis; Heidelberg Engineering GmbH, Heidelberg, Germany) was used to evaluate retinal and choroidal structures. Retinal and choroidal thicknesses were recorded from OCT images. Choroidal images were binarized to calculate choroidal vascularity index (CVI) with ImageJ 1.52 s (National Inst

Unnoticed metallic foreign body in the camerular angle inducing chronic uveitis.

We report the case of an eight-year-old male patient with a four-month history of unilateral anterior chronic uveitis, associated with a pigmented lesion surrounded by fibrinoid material in the inferior camerular angle and with a fibrotic lesion in the extreme periphery of the inferior retina. The patient had no history of trauma or any other clinical symptoms. Although the patient was suspected of having toxocariasis, serological tests were negative. Partial symptomatic improvement was achieved using both orally and topically administered corticosteroids. In addition, a decrease in fibrinoid

Polymorphisms of the cytomegalovirus glycoprotein B genotype in patients with Posner-Schlossman syndrome.

AIMS: The aim of this observational study was to report the distribution of glycoprotein B (gB) genotypes in the eyes of cytomegalovirus (CMV) positive patients with Posner-Schlossman syndrome (PSS), and to investigate their clinical characteristics and outcomes. METHODS: We collected aqueous humour samples from 165 patients clinically diagnosed with PSS between 2017 and 2019. PCR was performed to analyse the CMV DNA and identify the gB genotypes in the samples. Clinical characteristics and responses to antiviral treatment were compared among patients with different gB genotypes. RESULTS: CM
