Exploring the Genetic Association and Genetic Architecture of Iridocyclitis and Extraocular Autoimmune Diseases.

PURPOSE: Our objective was to explore the shared genetic risks between iridocyclitis and extraocular autoimmune diseases, as well as refine the regulatory network of genetic and environmental mechanisms by incorporating endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs). METHODS: Using summary statistics reporting genome-wide association study findings within European ancestry, we first investigated the genetic associations between iridocyclitis and extraocular autoimmune diseases. We then performed causal inference using Mendelian randomization (MR). By integrating genetic and causal associations, we exp

Vaccine-Associated Anterior Uveitis.

Vaccine-associated anterior uveitis (VAAU) is an uncommon ocular inflammatory phenotype reported after several vaccine platforms. It describes anterior segment inflammation occurring after vaccination when infectious, autoimmune, idiopathic, medication-related, and other possible causes have been reasonably excluded. The current literature indicates that post-vaccination uveitis is rare relative to the scale of immunization, although anterior uveitis is frequently reported among post-vaccination ocular inflammatory events. Evidence remains limited by reliance on case reports, case series, retr

Association between iridocyclitis and immune-related disease: A 2-sample Mendelian randomization study.

The genetic basis of iridocyclitis, an inflammatory eye disease, remains poorly understood, particularly in relation to autoimmune diseases. This study aimed to explore the causal associations between 6 immune-related diseases and iridocyclitis using Mendelian randomization (MR). A total of 230 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) significantly associated with systemic lupus erythematosus, ankylosing spondylitis (AS), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), Graves disease (GD), Crohn disease (CD), and allergic contact dermatitis were identified based on stringent MR assumptions. These SNPs served as inst

Tube Insertion of Ahmed Glaucoma Valve Using a Micro-incision Scleral Tunnel Technique.

We report three cases demonstrating the efficacy and versatility of the micro-incision scleral tunnel (MIST) technique, a novel method for Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) tube insertion. MIST is characterized by its small incision, sutureless approach, anterior-to-posterior tunnel creation, and allograft-free design. The technique involves creating a scleral tunnel using a 1-mm crescent knife (Bleb Knife II), allowing for secure tube placement into the anterior chamber, ciliary sulcus, or vitreous cavity. Case 1 involved a male patient in his 70s with primary angle-closure glaucoma, where the tube

Mendelian Randomization Study Implies Causal Linkage Between Telomere Length and Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis in a European Population.

BACKGROUND: Telomere maintenance is increasingly being considered as fundamental to the progression of immune-mediated inflammatory diseases. However, the causality underlying the purported relationship has not been fully elucidated. In the present work, we applied Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to obtain estimates of the causal effect of telomere length (TL) on the risk of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and JIA-associated iridocyclitis. METHODS: Two-sample MR analysis was conducted using summary-level data from the largest genome-wide association studies concerning TL (78,592 ind
