PURPOSE: To investigate the influence of protein concentration in the anterior chamber, measured by laser flare meter, on pain sensation after phenylephrine instillation in patients with iridocyclitis.

OBJECTIVE: To study the imaging characteristics of ultrasound biomicroscopy of secondary pupillary block glaucoma.
METHODS: 11 cases with pupillary block glaucoma diagnosed by ultrasound biomicroscopy were studied which had been suspected as malignant glaucoma at the beginning.

Eye involvement can occur in the course of ankylosing spondylitis and other spondylarthropathies (reactive arthritis, enteropathic and psoriatic rheumatism). The most frequent presentation is an acute anterior, unilateral, relapsing, sometimes in the contralateral eye uveitis. Local treatment that associates corticosteroids and cycloplegia usually leads to a complete healing, without sequelae. Involvement of other ocular structures is rare in spondylarthropathies.

UNLABELLED: Recent studies have sought to quantify aqueous flare by laser flare measurement. An increase in aqueous flare caused by a rise of protein concentration was frequently found both in anterior and posterior segment disease. This has been interpreted as a break-down of the blood--aqueous barrier (BAB).
