While ultrasonography has been applied to eye examination since the beginning of medical applications of ultrasound, the use of high frequencies is relatively recent in this context. Recent developments since the 1990s have made devices available that are well suited for examining the anterior segment as well as the posterior pole, providing precise data for corneal lesions, iris, chamber angle, and ciliary body abnormalities, and lesions of the papilla and macula.

CLINICAL CASE: We report the case of a 25 year old woman who attended our Hospital with a pigmented lesion in anterior chamber angle of her right eye. She complained of reduced visual acuity on the same eye. On examination, and once complementary tests were performed, a pigmented lesion located on the iris root and ciliary body of her right eye was confirmed. A decision to perform a local resection was made and there were no surgical complication. Histology results confirmed the diagnosis of ciliary body melanocytoma.

BACKGROUND: It is relatively rare to encounter a case of neovascular glaucoma induced by malignant lymphoma metastasized into the eyeball.
CASE: A 79-year-old woman initially visited our ophthalmology clinic with the chief complaint of blurring of vision in the left eye which was affected by neovascular glaucoma. She had a history of systemic malignant lymphoma, first diagnosed from skin biopsy and treated to complete remission 3 years previously. A metastatic brain lesion, detected 2 months before her initial visit to our clinic, was cured by radiotherapy.

Here we report the case of a patient with ciliary body ring melanoma who developed lymph node metastases after a fistulating glaucoma operation. BACKGROUND: Cystic or diffuse epithelial ingrowth into the anterior chamber after cataract surgery is a rare complication. It can lead to painful secondary glaucomas or in case of fistulation to persisting ocular hypotony or atrophy of the globe due to wrong or inadequate therapy.

We demonstrated that a quickly growing hamster skin melanoma developed a tumor after autologous implantation into the anterior chamber of the eye. Tumor cells were seen invading all the surrounding tissues, including the iris, ciliary body, choroid and cornea. Histological examination confirmed the presence of numerous blood vessels of large diameter. Their walls were very thin, thus only the endothelium could be identified using light microscopy. Macrophages, microemboli and extravasations were present within the tumor mass.
