Premium Intraocular Lenses and Their Impact on Visual Field Assessment: A Narrative Review.

Premium intraocular lens (IOL) such as enhanced monofocal, extended depth-of-focus (EDOF) and multifocal IOL has become increasing popular due to its ability to treat pseudophakic presbyopia and it also offers a spectacle-free lifestyle. However, the difference in light focality between these types of lenses may affect post operative outcomes, such as the worsening of visual field defects. From the existing literature, seven articles were selected for inclusion in this review to determine the effect of these presbyopia-correcting lenses on visual field assessment. Inclusion criteria included a

Anterior segment optical coherence tomography-guided management of capsular contraction and anterior-posterior capsular adhesion after congenital cataract surgery: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Capsular changes after congenital cataract surgery may compromise the visual axis in infants and may necessitate secondary surgical intervention. In such situations, identifying a safe dissection plane can be challenging under conventional microscopic visualization, and adjunctive intraoperative imaging may be beneficial. CASE PRESENTATION: A 2-month-old boy diagnosed with bilateral congenital cataracts underwent phacoaspiration, posterior capsulotomy, and anterior vitrectomy with planned aphakia. Despite continued topical treatment, the patient developed progressive posterior syn

DLL1 promotes diabetic cataract progression by driving epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) via activation of the Notch signaling pathway.

Diabetic cataracts (DCs) are a major vision-threatening complication of diabetes mellitus; however, their molecular mechanisms remain incompletely understood. The present study aimed to investigate the role of the Notch ligand δ-like ligand 1 (DLL1) in the pathogenesis of DCs. Immunohistochemical analysis revealed elevated DLL1 expression in anterior lens capsule tissues from patients with DCs compared with patients with age-related cataracts. In vitro, high-glucose treatment combined with TGF-β2 treatment induced epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in human lens epithelial cells (HLEB3),

Extracting the Unexpected: A 35-mm Curved Nail as an Intraocular Foreign Body.

BACKGROUND Management of posterior segment intraocular foreign bodies is challenging, requiring the preservation of ocular integrity and restoring vision. Traumatic endophthalmitis occurs in 7% to 13% of penetrating injuries, particularly with coexisting intraocular foreign bodies. Managing posterior segment intraocular foreign bodies poses significant challenges due to their complex clinical presentation and the need to achieve multiple goals during treatment. This unusual case of a large metallic intraocular foreign body associated with traumatic cataract, retinal detachment, and endophthalm

Neural aberration fields: continuous implicit representation of spatially varying point spread functions for vision simulation.

Convolution-based human vision simulation requires point spread functions (PSFs) that vary continuously across a high-dimensional parameter space encompassing field angle, pupil diameter, and eye-specific anatomy. Current state-of-the-art methods precompute PSFs on a discrete grid and rely on trilinear interpolation at runtime, incurring substantial memory overhead and resolution limitations. We propose Neural Aberration Fields (NAF), a framework that replaces discrete lookup tables with continuous neural implicit representations mapping optical coordinates directly to Zernike aberration coeff

[Advances in the functional classification of intraocular lenses].

With the rapid development of intraocular lens (IOL) technology, the traditional classification system based on optical design has become unable to accurately present IOL properties and predict patients' real-world visual outcomes. In 2024, the Functional Vision Working Group (FVWG) of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) first proposed an evidence-based functional classification framework quantified by monocular best-corrected visual acuity defocus curves, depth of field and visual acuity increase from intermediate to near, which categorizes IOLs into six functiona
