Wherever consumer fireworks are used, incidents with eye injuries do occur. In Germany, their number has increased in the past nine years, a clear overrepresentation of minors and bystanders is documented. Eyes are affected by a very individual combination of thermal, chemical and mechanical impact, resulting in minor to most complex injuries to adnexes, eye surface, iris, lens, sclera and/or posterior segment. Diagnostics may be complicated and require a structured approach, that is proposed here. Open globe injuries and intraocular foreign bodies necessitate early surgical intervention. In t

Traumatic cataract is a major cause of visual impairment, particularly in regions with high rates of ocular trauma. Therefore, it is of interest to evaluate visual and surgical outcomes following phacoemulsification in 62 patients with traumatic cataract at a tertiary center in Jharkhand. Most patients presented with poor preoperative vision and blunt trauma was more common than penetrating injuries. At 60 days postoperatively, 88.7% achieved 6/18 vision or better, with cystoid macular edema being the most frequent complication. Traumatic cataract surgery significantly improves visual outcomes

ABSTRACT: IntroductionWe aimed to identify injury-related risk factors for secondary cataract incidence after eye and brain injury and polytrauma. We also examined the effect of direct and indirect eye injury management on cataract diagnosis and treatment. Prevention or mitigation strategies require knowledge of the causes and types of combat injuries, which will enable more appropriate targeting of resources toward prevention and more efficient management of such injuries.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Data were gathered from the Military Health System using the Military Health System Management an

Ocular trauma is an important cause of monocular blindness worldwide. Injury to the lens after blunt or penetrating trauma is common and can result in vision impairment. Selecting the most appropriate therapeutic approaches depends on factors such as patients' age, mechanism of trauma, and underlying clinical conditions. Early management, especially within childhood, is essential because of the difficulties involved in examination; anatomical variations; as well as accompanying intraocular inflammation, amblyopia, or vitreoretinal adhesions. The objective of this study was to provide a compreh

A 54-year-old man presented to the ophthalmic emergency department of our center with eye pain and blurred vision in his right eye following a workplace accident. Examination revealed a penetrating corneal injury with the presence of an intraocular foreign body (IOFB) involving the corneoscleral limbus, perforating the cornea, iris, anterior lens capsule, and lens. Immediate surgical intervention was carried out with the extraction of the IOFB, identified as an 8mm mussel shell fragment, and the removal of the resulting traumatic cataract. Both preoperative and postoperative examinations showe
