Association of Retinal Pigment Epithelium Reflectivity on Optical Coherence Tomography with Recurrence of Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada Disease: A Retrospective Observational Study.

PURPOSE: Despite the necessity of optical coherence tomography (OCT) for diagnosis and longitudinal monitoring in patients with Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) disease, no studies have identified useful OCT markers for predicting recurrence in these patients. Although the precise reason for this remains unclear, one possibility is that infiltration of inflammatory cells into the choroid attenuates the OCT signal, making it difficult to precisely assess the structure of the choroid. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate changes in retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) reflectivity immediately above

Vitiligo as a First Sign of Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada Disease.

Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) disease is a multisystem disorder characterized by bilateral granulomatous panuveitis resulting in serous retinal detachments, disk edema, and a sunset glow fundus development. Furthermore, it is associated with various extraocular findings, such as tinnitus, hearing loss, vertigo, poliosis, and vitiligo (1). VKH is considered to be an autoimmune disease mediated by T-cells targeting melanocyte antigen tyrosinase peptide (2). Moreover, VKH more often occurs in individuals with a genetic predisposition to the disease, including those of Asian and Hispanic heritage (3)

Capsular phimosis with intraocular lens tilt and decentration.

A 34-year-old woman with quiescent bilateral intermediate uveitis maintained on once-daily dexamethasone 0.1% eyedrops, complicated by left cataract and glaucoma controlled with a single antiglaucoma medication, presented for cataract surgery. Her left corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) was 20/40 because of a posterior subcapsular lens opacity. The anterior chamber angles appeared closed in all 4 quadrants on gonioscopy. Ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) confirmed the gonioscopy findings and, in addition, revealed a crystalline lens thickness of 5.53 mm, normal ciliary body structure, and mu

Quiescent caterpillar hair: A rare cause of localised lenticular opacity formation.

PURPOSE: To report a rare case of a 65 year old patient with a single caterpillar hair with localised lenticular opacity around it and no active inflammation. OBSERVATIONS: A single quiescent caterpillar hair embedded in the anterior lens capsule causing localised cataract around it. There was no other sign of ocular toxicosis and the patient was unaware of the presence of this intraocular foreign body. CONCLUSIONS: Caterpillar hair (also known as setae) are a common cause of ophthalmia nodosa. These setae can penetrate intraocularly with ease to cause various forms of ocular toxicosis rangi

Clinical Spectrum, Radiological Findings, and Outcomes of Severe Toxoplasmosis in Immunocompetent Hosts: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: Accumulating evidence suggests that toxoplasmosis in immunocompetent hosts can be severe and life-threatening. METHODS: We performed a systematic review of severe toxoplasmosis cases in immunocompetent patients to gain insight into the epidemiology, clinical characteristics, radiological findings, and outcomes of these cases. We classified severe toxoplasmosis as cases with the symptomatic involvement of target organs (the lungs, central nervous system (CNS), and heart), disseminated disease, prolonged disease (>3 months), or a fatal outcome. Our primary analysis focused on cases
