An autopsy case of disseminated HSV type 2 infection occurring in a neonate at 32 weeks' gestation, delivered by cesarean section after premature rupture of membrane of 7 days duration, is presented. Herpes simplex virus type 2 was isolated from the vesicular skin lesion. The mother and patient had specific antibody to type 2 herpes simplex virus. The authors report on a 68-year-old patient who developed disseminated retinochoroiditis and vitritis following extensive gastrectomy for a cardial carcinoma. The clinical diagnosis of an endogenous Candida infection was confirmed by positive identification of Blastomyces from the subclavian catheter tip and the antibody titer. Resolution was achieved with orally administered ketoconazole and intravenously administered miconazole therapy.

Ocular toxoplasmosis typically presents as a focal necrotizing retinochoroiditis. We report a case of diffuse necrotizing retinochoroiditis due to toxoplasmosis in a patient with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). The appearance at initial presentation was similar to the acute retinal necrosis syndrome. We recommend that toxoplasmosis be considered in the differential diagnosis of diffuse retinal necrosis in patients with AIDS. Although systemic disseminated toxoplasmosis is not rare in AIDS, this is, to our knowledge, the first reported case of diffuse ocular involvement.

A 42-year-old bisexual man with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, cryptococcal meningitis, disseminated Mycobacterium avium-intracellulare with mycobacteremia, and oropharyngeal candidiasis developed unilateral retinitis and bilateral cotton wool patches. A case of a 17-year-old male suffering from acute bilateral disseminated subretinal inflammatory lesions, which affected the posterior pole and the retinal periphery as well, is presented. All the laboratory tests were negative except for the Sabin-Feldman dye test which showed a positive rising titer. The authors have followed the evolution of disseminated choroidal tuberculosis during a period of 16 months. At the beginning of the disease, fluorescein angiography showed an early 'screen effect' and later a 'focus effect'. During the later stage of the disease, the pigmented epithelium was seen to be involved as well, as demonstrated by (1) the presence of advanced pigmented chorioretinitis at the sites where the tubercles were observed at the beginning of the disease and (2) the presence of fluorescent areas early during fluorescein angiography.
