Risk of Retinal Detachment After Intravitreal Injection of Anti-VEGF: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

TOPIC: This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the literature-pooled risk of retinal detachment (RD) following intravitreal injection (IVI) of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) agents. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Intravitreal anti-VEGF injections are the most frequently performed intraocular procedure, with RD remaining a poorly quantified complication. Pooled estimates equip clinicians to contextualize RD risk during informed consent. METHODS: This systematic review and meta-analysis followed PRISMA guidelines (PROSPERO: CRD420251175527). MEDLINE, Embase, and Cochrane C

Use of preoperative swept-source optical coherence tomography in vitrectomy for advanced diabetic eye disease: a pilot study.

BACKGROUND: Swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) is an OCT variant with longer wavelengths than other commonly used OCT devices. Our aim was to determine the benefit of pre-operative SS-OCT to detect occult retinal pathologies in patients with advanced diabetic eye disease (ADED). METHODS: Fundus photos and SS-OCT were performed pre-operatively in all patients scheduled for vitrectomy for ADED. These were reviewed by two retina specialists. A modified BIO-score based on the Nussenblatt scale of vitreous haze was used to evaluate fundus clarity on fundus photos. Findings on fundu

Residual Tree Damage During Forest Operations: a Comprehensive Review of Operational, Silvicultural, and Human-related Factors.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Minimizing residual tree damage during mechanized forest operations is vital for sustainable forest management since this damage can affect stand structure, timber quality, and long-term forest health. Although various studies have examined tree damage factors, evidence remains fragmented across regions and systems. The review synthesizes the state of knowledge of residual tree damage during forest operations, identifying how operational, silvicultural, and human factors have been reported to influence damage characteristics and synthesize mitigation strategies. RECENT FIND

Evaluation of aggressive posterior retinopathy of prematurity (AP-ROP) in the German Retina.net ROP registry.

PURPOSE: Aggressive (posterior) retinopathy of prematurity (A-ROP/AP-ROP) may progress rapidly into tractional retinal detachment if not treated timely. Fortunately, this type of treatment-warranted ROP is rare in developed countries. As a consequence, data on risk factors for development of this aggressive form of ROP is sparse. In this study, we aim to analyse the risk factors for the development of AP-ROP using data from the German Retina.net ROP registry and report functional outcomes of patients treated for AP-ROP. METHODS: We assessed the observational German Retina.net ROP registry for

Surgical management of myopic traction maculopathy; expert perspectives from the myopia society.

Myopic traction maculopathy (MTM) occurs in approximately 9-34 % of highly myopic eyes and requires surgical treatment to prevent irreversible vision loss due to progression to macular hole (MH) or retinal detachment (RD). While treatment of MTM, which presents with a variety of morphological patterns, shares the common goal of managing the causative tractional tissues on the retina, it is essential to tailor the surgical plan according to the locations of each lesion. Here, we classify MTM into four core lesions: retinoschisis, foveal RD, lamellar MH (LMH), and full-thickness MH (FTMH), and p

Spontaneous resolution of vitreomacular traction following deep scuba diving: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Vitreomacular traction is characterized by incomplete posterior vitreous detachment, wherein persistent adherence of the vitreous to the macula results in tractional distortion and associated visual symptoms. Although spontaneous resolution of vitreomacular traction may occur, surgical intervention is typically pursued when significant visual impairment occurs. The mechanism by which spontaneous release of vitreomacular traction is unclear, as there are numerous intrinsic and extrinsic factors that affect the eye. This case highlights the potential effects of sudden changes in baro

Physics-informed, phenotype-based endotamponade selection in vitreoretinal surgery: current agents and emerging vitreous substitutes.

BACKGROUND: Endotamponade selection is best understood as a physics-informed, phenotype-based decision rather than one driven mainly by tamponade duration or material class. This narrative review integrates density, interfacial tension, contact angle, viscosity, and drug-tamponade interactions with phenotype-specific clinical outcomes. The result is a practical framework linking tamponade behavior to retinal geography, disease complexity, and postoperative feasibility. MAIN BODY: Lighter-than-water agents (air, expansile gases, and light silicone oils [LSOs]) preferentially support the superi

Beyond Treatment: The Strategy of Nonintervention in Choroidal Hemangioma.

The circumscribed choroidal hemangioma (CCH) is a benign congenital eye tumor whose etiology is not clear. A 41-year-old female patient came with a 2-year history of slowly progressive deteriorating vision in her right eye. In the left eye, the best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 6/6, and counting fingers at 1 m in the right eye. The wide-field fundus showed a yellow macular lesion with indistinct limits, which is a sign of serous retinal detachment. B-scan ultrasonography revealed a clear-cut choroidal lesion, high internal reflectivity, and visible intrinsic vascularity on color Doppler.
