Primary myelofibrosis (PMF) is a rare myeloproliferative neoplasm that typically affects older adults but may present aggressively in younger patients. Thromboembolic complications are well recognized, though arterial occlusions are uncommon in this age group. Ocular ischemia associated with systemic inflammatory conditions such as Sweet's syndrome is exceedingly rare. A 22-year-old female with PMF, diagnosed 18 months earlier and managed initially with ruxolitinib, presented with sudden, complete loss of vision in her left eye. She also had a history of Sweet's syndrome managed with oral cort

PURPOSE: Retinal artery occlusion (RAO) is a rare but vision-threatening complication of carotid revascularization, yet its comparative incidence after carotid endarterectomy (CEA) versus carotid artery stenting (CAS) is poorly characterized. We compared the risk of RAO and associated neurologic outcomes after CEA and CAS.
METHODS: Retrospective multicenter cohort study using the TriNetX Research Network (January 1, 2004-March 15, 2026). Adults undergoing CEA or CAS with ≥6 months of follow-up and no prior diagnosis of any studied outcome condition (retinal artery or vein occlusion, glaucoma,

BACKGROUND: Central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) causes irreversible blindness. Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a recognized cause that may not be present at the time of the event.
OBJECTIVE: We aimed to assess the relation of CRAO with new-onset AF and ischemic stroke.
METHODS: We systematically searched the literature, utilizing the search terms "atrial fibrillation" and "retinal artery occlusion". We used a random effects model to calculate the pooled odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) of new-onset AF risk and new-onset ischemic stroke risk in CRAO patients compared to match

BACKGROUND: Susac's syndrome (SuS) is a rare microangiopathy, often consisting of a classic, pathognomonic, clinical triad of sensorineural hearing impairment, encephalopathy, and retinal arterial occlusions. The variable presentation of SuS leads to underdiagnosis, despite the syndrome standing as an important differential in a variety of ophthalmic, neurological, and psychiatric presentations. Low case numbers and a fast progressive clinical course add to the difficulty of early recognition and treatment.
METHODS: We report on a case of Susac's syndrome in a 40-year-old woman with the class

PURPOSE: Conditions associated with complete or partial ocular ischemia, such as central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO), are vision-threatening emergencies. Therapeutic interventions are highly time-dependent, yet the exact onset of ischemia is often uncertain. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) has emerged as a potential tool for objective staging; however, quantitative, layer-resolved OCT data within the earliest phase of retinal ischemia in clinically relevant large-animal models are lacking.
METHODS: Ten eyes from 10 pigs were included. Physiological retinal perfusion was confirmed using

BACKGROUND Central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) is an ophthalmic emergency and a retinal ischemic stroke. Cilioretinal arteries may remain perfused during CRAO because they arise from the posterior ciliary circulation. Most reported cilioretinal sparing involves papillomacular or foveal preservation; nasal sparing is atypical. We report CRAO with nasal retinal sparing and spontaneous head-turn behavior during screening. CASE REPORT A 55-year-old man presented with a 2-day history of sudden, painless vision loss in the right eye. He had newly diagnosed hypertension and was an active smoker.

INTRODUCTION: To determine the effect of the timing of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO₂) treatment on functional and structural outcomes in central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO).
METHODS: This single‑center retrospective cohort study analyzed 101 eyes with CRAO treated with HBO₂. Eyes were stratified by symptom‑to‑treatment interval: ≤12 hours (Group 1), 12-24 hours (Group 2), 24-36 hours (Group 3), and >36 hours (Group 4). Best‑corrected visual acuity (BCVA-logMAR), central macular thickness (CMT), and inner retinal hyperreflective band thickness (IRHBT) were recorded at presentation, week 1, and m

OBJECTIVE: Central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) is an acute that can result in irreversible vision loss and blindness. However, the efficacy of conventional treatments for retinal artery recanalization and vision restoration remains uncertain. The objective of our study was to evaluate effectiveness and potential side effects of conventional multimodal treatment (CMT) combined with ultrasound-stimulated microbubbles (USMB) in the patients with CRAO.
METHODS: In this nonconcurrent controlled trial, 34 CRAO patients were consecutively enrolled in the USMB group (CMT+ USMB). USMB was performe

Central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) is a vision-threatening vascular emergency that often causes permanent monocular visual loss. We report a woman in her late seventies with metastatic hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer and multiple myeloma who developed sudden, painless right monocular vision loss while receiving long-term abemaciclib and lenalidomide. Funduscopic examination showed diffuse retinal whitening, attenuated retinal arterioles and a cherry-red spot, confirming CRAO. She presented approximately 20 hours after symptom onset, outside the window for hyperacute

PURPOSE: This study aims to investigate the effects of varying lengths of cilioretinal artery perfusion on central visual acuity and fundus angiography circulation time in patients with central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO).
METHODS: A retrospective analysis included 582 CRAO patients, including 87 patients with cilioretinal arteries. Cilioretinal arteries were classified by direction into nasal and temporal groups, with the temporal group further subdivided into four subtypes based on the optic disc-macula distance (DMD): 1/4, 2/4, 3/4, and 4/4 DMD. Differences in basic information, visual

BACKGROUND: Nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) and central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) are both causes of acute vision loss. When patients present within the first several weeks of symptom onset, clinical signs such as optic disc or inner retinal edema often allow differentiation. However, as time progresses and edema resolves, both diseases lead to optic atrophy and retinal thinning, sometimes making them difficult to distinguish. Clinical experience suggests that CRAO results in more significant thinning of the inner retinal layers, particularly the ganglion cell lay

CONTEXT: Yes-associated protein 1 (YAP1) plays essential roles in somatic cell proliferation and differentiation and is regulated by cell cycle proteins and mechanical cues transduced by the actin cytoskeleton. YAP1 has been localized to the mitotic spindle. Whether YAP1 may participate in oocyte maturation is not known.
AIMS: Determine effect of YAP inhibitor on oocyte maturation and the potential involvement of cell cycle regulators and actin polymerization modulators on YAP localization and phosphorylation status during oocyte maturation.
METHODS: Mouse oocytes were cultured in vitro alon
