Intraretinal hyperreflective line: potential biomarker in various retinal disorders.

BACKGROUND: The intraretinal hyperreflective line (IHL) is a novel posterior segment finding demonstrable using careful optical coherence tomography (OCT) examination. It likely indicates a reaction against photoreceptor, Muller cell, and/or retinal pigment epithelial damage. This study analyzed the spectral-domain OCT characteristics of IHLs to disclose their presence in various retinal conditions. METHODS: A retrospective review of the charted and imaging records of participants with IHL was conducted at Dokuz Eylul University Department of Ophthalmology between January 2019 and August 2023

Aetiology, Diagnosis and Treatment of Arterial Occlusions of the Retina-A Narrative Review.

Arterial occlusions of the retina are potentially sight-threatening diseases which often result in profound visual loss. The aim of this narrative review is to provide an overview of the aetiology, discuss major risk factors, describe the management and systemic assessments and evaluate existing therapies. For this review, an extensive literature search in PubMed was performed. Emboli from the heart or the carotid arteries can cause ophthalmic artery occlusion (OAO), central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) and branch retinal artery occlusion (BRAO). Most patients with arterial occlusions have

Proteomic Analysis of Aqueous Humor in Central Retinal Artery Occlusion: Unveiling Novel Insights Into Disease Pathophysiology.

PURPOSE: Central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) is an ocular emergency that results from acute blockage of the blood supply to the retina and leads to a sudden vision loss. Other forms of ischemic retinopathies include diabetic retinopathy (DR), which involves chronic retinal ischemia and remains the leading cause of blindness in working-age adults. This study is the first to conduct a proteomic analysis of aqueous humor (AH) from patients with CRAO with a comparative analysis using vitreous humor (VH) samples from patients with DR. METHODS: AH samples were collected from 10 patients with CR

Drop and Swell: Unanticipated Corneal Edema From Netarsudil Therapy.

Neovascular glaucoma (NVG) poses significant treatment challenges, often necessitating complex medication regimens to manage intraocular pressure (IOP). This report details a 65-year-old male with NVG secondary to central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO), who developed corneal epithelial bullae as a rare side effect of topical netarsudil therapy. Despite this complication, a continued treatment led to the gradual resolution of corneal lesions while maintaining controlled IOP. This case underscores the importance of vigilant monitoring for adverse effects and highlights the need for further rese

An Unusual Ocular Manifestation of Disseminated Tuberculosis: Combined Retinal Vascular Occlusion Inducing Acute Loss of Vision.

Disseminated tuberculosis (TB) is a life-threatening disease caused by the hematogenous spread of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Acute loss of vision as a symptom of disseminated TB is uncommon, as per the literature. Uveitis is the most common ocular manifestation of TB, and tubercular retinal arterial or venous occlusion, with or without ocular signs, has been rarely described before. We discuss the case of a 34-year-old truck driver who presented with fever, cough, and sudden painless loss of vision in the right eye. Examination revealed optic neuropathy, as well as central retinal artery and
