The only proven strategy to prevent primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) is the use of ocular hypotensive therapy among people diagnosed with ocular hypertension. In this review, various modifiable lifestyle factors, such as exercise, diet, and cigarette smoking, that may influence intraocular pressure and that have been studied in relation to the risk of developing POAG are discussed. AIMS: To compare the efficacy of pneumatic trabeculoplasty (PNT) and argon laser trabeculoplasty (ALT) in primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) uncontrolled with two topical therapies.

BACKGROUND: First-line therapy for primary open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension generally involves prostaglandin analogue therapy. The relative efficacy of differing prostaglandin therapy is disputed.

Selective laser trabeculoplasty is an effective means of lowering intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma with a low risk of complications. The authors report a case of hyphema noted 3 days after selective laser trabeculoplasty in a 77-year-old woman with primary open-angle glaucoma. Her intermittent use of oral nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications and chronic topical nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory use may have been a contributing risk factor.
