Ocular pyogenic granuloma is a benign tumor seen after ocular insult secondary to ocular surgeries, trauma or infection. Although benign, intervention is sometimes necessary. Previous authors have reported pyogenic granuloma formation following oculoplastic surgeries. We report a pyogenic granuloma after an Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation. A 65-year-old gentleman presented with right eye redness associated with pain and swelling ~2 months after Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation. Examination found a sessile growth on the tube extruding puss with signs of endophthalmitis. The glaucoma drainage

BACKGROUND: Traumatic hyphema is the entry of blood into the anterior chamber (the space between the cornea and iris) subsequent to a blow or a projectile striking the eye. Hyphema uncommonly causes permanent loss of vision. Associated trauma (e.g. corneal staining, traumatic cataract, angle recession glaucoma, optic atrophy, etc.) may seriously affect vision. Such complications can lead to permanent impairment of vision. People with sickle cell trait/disease may be particularly susceptible to increases of elevated intraocular pressure. If rebleeding occurs, the rates and severity of complicat

Ocular bee stings are known to cause corneal melts, corneal infiltrates, cataracts, and secondary glaucoma. Our patient presented with scleritis, corneal infiltrates, and endophthalmitis after a ocular bee sting. Topical treatment led to resolution of anterior segment inflammation, but the scleritis and vitreous inflammation worsened. Vitrectomy with intravitreal antibiotics was done and scrapings from the scleral abscess showed growth of Aspergillus fumigatus on culture. Repeat vitrectomy with silicone oil was needed for retinal detachment. Oral and intravitreal antifungals led to resolution

Eyes that have experienced alkali burn to the surface are excessively susceptible to subsequent severe glaucoma and retinal ganglion cell loss, despite maximal efforts to prevent or slow down the disease. Recently, we have shown, in mice and rabbits, that such retinal damage is neither mediated by the alkali itself reaching the retina nor by intraocular pressure elevation. Rather, it is caused by the up-regulation of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), which rapidly diffuses posteriorly, causing retinal ganglion cell apoptosis and CD45+ cell activation. Herein, we investigated the involvement of

We report a patient who presented with endocapsular capsule tension ring (CTR) in iridocorneal angle leading to secondary angle closure glaucoma (ACG) and subsequent removal of the CTR from trabeculectomy ostium. Secondary ACG was diagnosed 2 years and 6 months after cataract surgery in which a CTR was used for zonular instability. CTR removal with trabeculectomy was performed, after which there was the resolution of symptoms. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report in which CTR was removed from trabeculectomy ostium. We describe a surgical technique to explant CTR and comb

Iridodialysis is commonly encountered after blunt trauma to the eye. Most iris detachments are small, superior, and asymptomatic and require no surgical intervention. However, large areas of iridodialysis require early surgical repair to prevent the onset of iris necrosis, pigment dispersion, and secondary glaucoma. Suture fixation of iris to the sclera is the most commonly used method for iris repair; however, this technique becomes difficult in cases of near-total iris disinsertion, even in expert hands. We describe a case of posttraumatic near-total iris disinsertion with subluxated catarac

Brittle cornea syndrome (BCS1 OMIM #229200, BCS2 #614170) is a rare autosomal recessive condition characterised by diffuse thinning and fragility of the cornea. Affected individuals are at risk of globe rupture and blindness after relatively minor eye trauma. We describe a 9-year-old girl with BCS1, already blind in one eye following trauma, who had a 14 mm diameter corneoscleral onlay graft to her contralateral eye to reduce gross irregular corneal astigmatism and potentially to reduce further risk from accidental injury. Although there was a significant initial improvement in the unaided vis
