PURPOSE: Long-term antiglaucoma eye drop therapy prior to trabeculectomy is a risk factor for surgical failure resulting from Tenon's capsule fibrosis at the fistula site. The study tested the hypothesis that secretion of the proinflammatory cytokine interleukin (IL)-6 by wounded Tenon's capsule-fibroblasts is elevated by prior long-term antiglaucoma eye drop treatment.

The prostaglandin derivatives are thought to lower intraocular pressure (IOP) primarily by increasing uveoscleral outflow. Anterior uveitis and secondary glaucoma resulting from intraocular ointment has not been reported. The advent of small-incision surgery has likely reduced the incidence of this complication to low levels. We report a case of anterior uveitis after small-incision cataract surgery due to an intraocular ointment base. The course of this rare case is described and the literature reviewed.

We report 4 cases that presented with intractable glaucoma after complicated phacoemulsification during which sodium hyaluronate 1.0% (Healon) was used to tamponade a central posterior capsule rupture. The postoperative intraocular pressure (IOP) was uncontrolled on maximal medical therapy. PURPOSE: To evaluate the clinical outcome of transscleral cyclophotocoagulation (TSCPC) with the diode laser for different glaucomas, especially as primary surgery.
METHODS: A retrospective analysis of 250 TSCPC (193 eyes of 145 patients) with different glaucomas and an average age of 62.6+/-17.1 years. Postoperative follow-up ranged from 6 to 48 months (mean 13.9 months). Most of the patients had primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) or secondary glaucoma. All eyes were treated with 24-30 spots and 1.4-1.8 W at an exposure time of 2 s using a diode laser with a focussing tip.
