Secondary household transmission of conjunctivitis in children.

Among surveyed households, the transmission rate of pediatric conjunctivitis was 12%. Rates did not differ when the index child did or did not use an ophthalmic antibiotic (14% vs 11% [P = 0.6]). Transmission rates were lower than for other infections where children are not routinely excluded from school or daycare.

Association between short-term ozone exposure and allergic conjunctivitis in China: A multi-city case-crossover study.

Short-term exposure to ozone has been linked to multiple allergic diseases, but the relationship between ozone exposure and allergic conjunctivitis (AC) remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the association between short-term exposure to ozone and the risk of AC. We conducted a time-stratified case-crossover study across five Chinese cities from 2014 to 2022. Daily outpatient visit records for AC were identified in five hospitals using either the diagnosis name or ICD-10 code H10.1. Data on air pollution and meteorological conditions were also collected. We first examined the city-s

Cancellation of the more complicated ophthalmic inpatient surgeries in a tertiary general hospital: a 10-year retrospective study.

BACKGROUND: Although ophthalmic ambulatory surgeries are less costly and may enhance the more efficient utilization of hospital resources, inpatient surgeries were preferable alternatives for patients with complicated eye diseases or poor general health. However, the incidence, causes, and related factors of ophthalmic inpatient surgery cancellation remained largely unknown. METHODS: The electronic medical records of ophthalmic inpatient surgeries between January 2012 and December 2022 was retrospectively reviewed. Cancellation-related factors were explored using multivariate logistic regress

Daily gaseous air pollution and pediatric conjunctivitis: A case-crossover study across ten cities in China's southeastern coastal region.

The evidence on associations between ambient gaseous pollutants and conjunctivitis remains inconclusive, and limited research is available, particularly regarding children. Based on a case-crossover study conducted in ten Chinese cities from 2013 to 2023, we documented 418,027 outpatient visits for conjunctivitis in children. Of these visits, 256,525 were for boys and 161,502 for girls. A one standard deviation (SD) increase in daily concentrations of carbon monoxide (CO) was related to a 1.20 % rise in same-day outpatient visits for pediatric conjunctivitis (OR = 1.012, 95 % CI: 1.005, 1.018)

Ocular Manifestations in Seborrheic Dermatitis Epidemiology, Clinical Features, and Management: A Comprehensive Review.

Seborrheic dermatitis (SD) often leads to ocular manifestations (OM) that are frequently overlooked. This study comprehensively explains the genesis of these ocular issues, which involves a combination of Malassezia overgrowth, changes in sebum production, and inflammatory responses in the body. The periocular region is rich in sebaceous glands, allowing Malassezia to thrive, which can lead to an inflammatory reaction that spreads to the eye surface, causing disorders such as blepharitis, conjunctivitis, keratitis, and ocular surface diseases. Although epidemiological data are limited, it is w

[Research progress on the pathogenesis of PM2.5 in ophthalmic diseases].

PM2.5 is a fine particulate matter with an aerodynamic equivalent diameter of less than or equal to 2.5 μm, and it is the primary pollutant that causes haze. In recent years, numerous research results have shown that PM2.5 is associated with various ophthalmic diseases and its pathogenic mechanism is complex. It can disrupt the homeostasis of the tear film and the function of the meibomian glands, leading to dry eye; increase the risk of allergic and other types of conjunctivitis; may cause blepharitis; affect the homeostasis of the corneal epithelium and promote the development of keratopathy
