Effects of orthokeratology on binocular vision and myopia control in adolescents.

This study aimed to compare the efficacy of myopia control in adolescents wearing orthokeratology lenses (OKL) or single-vision spectacles (SVS). This prospective study included 30 myopic adolescents wearing orthokeratology lenses (OKL group) and 30 wearing SVS (SVS group). To prevent pseudo-replication arising from the strong correlation between fellow eyes, only right-eye data were analyzed, except for binocular tests requiring measurements from both eyes. All participants underwent assessments of visual acuity (VA), refraction, axial length (AL), and binocular visual function, including acc

Impact of eye movement ability analysis (EMAA) use in the treatment of ocular vergence disorders: A retrospective study.

BACKGROUND: Vergence disorders are generally treated by office-based vergence/accommodative therapy. Novel technologies now make it possible to include patients in their own care and increase efficiency. Eye movement ability analysis (EMAA) is a software designed to treat binocular vision disorders, combining the use of virtual reality (VR) and eye tracking. The objective of this study is to evaluate, in routine practice and in real-life settings, the safety and efficacy of EMAA in the rehabilitation of vergence disorders. METHODS: Retrospectively, the elements of an orthoptic assessment (fus

Update on Congenital Cranial Dysinnervation Disorders (CCDDs).

Congenital cranial dysinnervation disorders (CCDDs) are a group of rare, nonprogressive conditions characterized by abnormal development of the cranial motor nerves and variable ocular motility deficits, ptosis, incomitant strabismus, and facial palsy. Advances in genetics and neuroimaging have revealed that these disorders result from defects in neuronal differentiation or axon guidance of the cranial motor neurons. Duane retraction syndrome, the most common CCDD, results from the absence of the abducens nerve and innervation of the lateral rectus by oculomotor nerve axons; causative genes in

Ozurdex® Implant Inside the Capsular Bag: A Report of a Rare Case.

We report a rare case of an intravitreal dexamethasone implant (Ozurdex®) inadvertently located within the capsular bag following a uneventful cataract surgery. A 46-year-old female patient with a history of recalcitrant uveitis in the left eye presented with diminished vision in the right eye. She was diagnosed with a complicated cataract with 360° posterior synechiae. After manual small incision cataract surgery and intraocular lens implantation, the patient received an intravitreal Ozurdex implant to mitigate possible exacerbation of preexisting uveitis. Postoperatively, the implant was vis

Congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction and amblyogenic risk factors: a systematic review of the evidence and controversies.

PURPOSE: Congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction (CNLDO) represents the predominant etiology of infantile epiphora. It frequently resolves spontaneously; but persists in approximately 5-6% of cases. The possible correlation between CNLDO and risk factors for amblyopia, including anisometropia, refractive errors, and strabismus, remains a subject of debate, which consequently affects the timing and selection of therapeutic interventions. METHODS: This systematic review adhered to the PRISMA2020 guidelines. Comprehensive search of PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar (1998-2024)

Gelatinous drop-like amyloid in FOXC2 distichiasis syndrome: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Gelatinous drop-like dystrophy is a rare autosomal recessive disorder caused by pathogenic variants in the TACSTD2 gene and characterized by subepithelial amyloid deposits in the cornea. Alterations in FOXC2 are seen in lymphedema-distichiasis syndrome, in which patients classically exhibit lymphedema of the extremities and a double row of eyelashes. This report links alterations in the FOXC2 gene to a corneal phenotype that is histologically identical to that seen in gelatinous drop-like dystrophy. CASE PRESENTATION: A 14-year-old male with congenital distichiasis presented with c
