Accommodative Spasm Presenting as Pseudomyopia in a 47-Year-Old Male With Headache as the Primary Complaint: A Case Report.

Pseudomyopia refers to an apparent myopic shift caused by accommodative overactivity that resolves after cycloplegia and may occur as an isolated accommodative spasm or within the broader spasm of the near-reflex spectrum. Because the refractive component is functional rather than structural, cycloplegic refraction is essential to confirm reversibility and avoid misclassification as true myopia. A 47-year-old male police officer presented with a 1-month history of persistent, dull headaches associated with ocular discomfort. Symptoms were accompanied by intermittent nausea and visual strain, m

Stereopsis Assessment in a Pediatric Population and Its Association With Refractive Error: A Cross-Sectional Study.

INTRODUCTION: Stereopsis is the perception of depth arising from binocular vision and is essential for fine motor skills and overall visual function in children. It has been observed that refractive errors diminish binocular function by causing visual blur and impairing fusion, which results in poor stereopsis. Poor stereoacuity can lead to inferior quality of vision and substandard work performance, especially where good eye-hand coordination and visual motor skills are required. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to assess the level of stereoacuity among children with refractive errors a

Anterior Cervical Hypertrichosis (Hairy Throat Syndrome): Pediatric Case Report and Brief Literature Review.

Anterior cervical hypertrichosis, also known as hairy throat syndrome, is a rare and typically benign condition characterized by a well-defined patch of terminal hair on the front of the neck. Although it is often an isolated finding, it may sometimes be associated with neurological or developmental abnormalities, which makes clinical awareness important. We report the case of a healthy 4-year-old girl who presented with congenital localized excessive hair growth over the anterior cervical region. The patch had remained unchanged since birth and was not associated with any skin changes or syst

Exploring the Visual Profile in Pediatric Scoliosis: Insights from a Controlled Comparative Study.

BACKGROUND: Idiopathic scoliosis is a complex spinal deformity that often emerges during growth and has a multifactorial etiology. Recent evidence suggests that visual disturbances may affect postural alignment and potentially influence spinal curvature patterns. However, the relationship between visual impairments and scoliosis, especially S-shaped curves, remains insufficiently understood. The aim was to investigate the association between visual disturbances and spinal curvature characteristics in pediatric patients with double major idiopathic scoliosis, and to explore the correlation betw

A patient with TPCN2-related hypopigmentation and ocular phenotype.

Pigmentation is orchestrated by hundreds of genes involved in cellular functions going from early developmental fate of pigment cells to melanin synthesis. The Two Pore Channel 2 (TPC2) a Ca2+ and Na+ channel acidifies melanosomal pH and thus inhibits pigmentation. A young patient was recently reported with generalized hypopigmentation but uneventful ocular examination, caused by the de novo heterozygous TPCN2 variant c.628C>T;p.Arg210Cys that constitutively activates TPC2. Here we report a young patient with the same de novo variant presenting with generalized hypopigmentation, and ophthalmol

A PheWAS approach to identify associations of GBA1 variants with comprehensive phenotypes beyond neurological diseases.

Given the established association between numerous GBA1 variants and specific neurological diseases, we extended the exploration by a phenome-wide association study to assess the impact of GBA1 variants on a wider spectrum of health-related traits. We identified 41 phenotypes associated with GBA1 variants, 39 of which were unreported, including 21 non-neurological and 20 neurological phenotypes. Based on variant-level association tests, we found beyond the neurological phenotypes particularly decreased gray-white matter contrast measures across 13 distinct brain regions, the non-coding variant
