Bilateral myelinated nerve fiber layers, high hyperopia, and amblyopia.

We report a case of bilateral myelinated nerve fiber layer (MNFL) in a 24-year-old male with high hyperopia and amblyopia. He presented with poor vision bilaterally since childhood and was evaluated for ophthalmic and systemic diseases. Retinal examination indicated MNFLs in both eyes. The presence of bilateral MNFL associated with axial hypermetropia is rare. Ametropia seems to have a stronger influence on the relative visual acuity than the presence of retinal nerve fiber myelination. Early detection of ametropia and correction with glasses might prevent further deterioration of vision.

Report of two siblings with spondylodysplastic Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and B4GALT7 deficiency.

BACKGROUND: The spondylodysplastic Ehlers-Danlos subtype (OMIM #130070) is a rare connective tissue disorder characterized by a combination of connective tissue symptoms, skeletal features and short stature. It is caused by variants in genes encoding for enzymes involved in the proteoglycan biosynthesis or for a zinc transporter. PRESENTATION OF CASES: We report two brothers with a similar phenotype of short stature, joint hypermobility, distinct craniofacial features, developmental delay and severe hypermetropia indicative for a spondylodysplastic Ehlers-Danlos subtype. One also suffered fro

Perception of Trifocal IOL Performance in Young Adults with High Astigmatism and Hyperopia and its Improvement Using Small Incision Lenticule Extraction.

BACKGROUND: Hyperopia is a kind of refractive error in which incoming light is focused behind, instead of on, the retina wall due to insufficient accommodation by the lens. It is likely affected by ethnicity, geography, and a family history of hyperopia or accommodative esotropia and is categorized as low (≤ 2.00D), moderate (2.00-4.00 D), and high (> 4.00D). Beyond hyperopia refractive error, patients may have poor accommodative function or visual perceptual skills. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to present the latest approaches to planning trifocal intraocular lens (IOL) and toric trifocal IOL

Overcoming myopic shift by the initial inductive hypermetropia in pediatric cataract surgery.

PURPOSE: To assess the outcome of under-correction of intraocular lens (IOL) power in pediatric cataract surgery. METHODS: We collected clinical data of 103 patients (181 eyes), all aged ≤15 years, who had undergone cataract surgery by a surgeon during 2006-2016. The mean duration of follow-up was 73 ± 38 months (range: 24-108). IOL power was calculated by Hoffer Q formula in axial length (AL) <21 mm and SRKT formula in AL ≥21 mm and then modified based on this approach: 7D initial inductive hypermetropization in children ≤1-year-old, 5D in 1-3, 3.5D in 3-5, 2.5D in 5-7, 1.5D in 7-9, 1D in 9-

Genome-wide variant calling in reanalysis of exome sequencing data uncovered a pathogenic TUBB3 variant.

Almost half of all individuals affected by intellectual disability (ID) remain undiagnosed. In the Solve-RD project, exome sequencing (ES) datasets from unresolved individuals with (syndromic) ID (n = 1,472 probands) are systematically reanalyzed, starting from raw sequencing files, followed by genome-wide variant calling and new data interpretation. This strategy led to the identification of a disease-causing de novo missense variant in TUBB3 in a girl with severe developmental delay, secondary microcephaly, brain imaging abnormalities, high hypermetropia, strabismus and short stature. Individual Differences in Response to Antidepressants: A Meta-analysis of Placebo-Controlled Randomized Clinical Trials.

IMPORTANCE: Antidepressants are commonly used to treat major depressive disorder (MDD). Antidepressant outcomes can vary based on individual differences; however, it is unclear whether specific factors determine this variability or whether it is at random. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the assumption of systematic variability in symptomatic response to antidepressants and to assess whether variability is associated with MDD severity, antidepressant class, or study publication year. DATA SOURCES: Data used were updated from a network meta-analysis of treatment with licensed antidepressants in adu
