UNLABELLED: INTRODUCTION: The therapeutic role of metamizole (dipyrone) remains controversial because of the risk of metamizole-induced agranulocytosis, a very rare, idiosyncratic, life-threatening adverse reaction. We described utilisation, spontaneous reporting and recent regulatory actions in Switzerland.
METHODS: We estimated national metamizole utilisation as defined daily doses (DDD; WHO DDD 3 g/day) for 2014-2023, derived from aggregated national sales data; individual case safety reports (ICSR) of metamizole-induced agranulocytosis were retrieved from VigiBase (the WHO global safety d

OBJECTIVE AND IMPORTANCE: Giant cell tumor of the sphenoid bone is extremely unusual. This tumor is usually located in long bones and is rarely located in the cranial vault. It must be differentiated from reparative granuloma and the Brown tumor of hyperparathyroidism. This case report is only the second involving a patient in the first decade.
CLINICAL PRESENTATION: A 9-year-old girl presented with cephalgia and diplopia. Radiographic imaging revealed an erosive mass in the clivus.
INTERVENTION: The patient underwent an extended transphenoidal resection of the clivus. This was followed with

Carotid-cavernous fistula (CCF) associated with persistent trigeminal artery (PTA) is a rare but important clinical entity. We present a case treated by microcoil embolization with preservation of internal carotid, PTA, and hasilar artery flow following embolization. A 62-year-old female developed pulsatile tinnitus followed by left eye proptosis and diplopia. Examination revealed a cranial nerve VI palsy and an objective bruit over the left orbit. Angiographic evaluation revealed a carotid cavernous fistula originating from a persistent trigeminal artery. Placement of a detachable balloon acr

Optic neuropathy affects a small proportion of patients with Graves' eye disease. It is due to optic nerve compression by enlarged extraocular muscles and can be treated by corticosteroids, irradiation or surgical orbital decompression. The current report evaluates the effectiveness of extracranial orbital decompression performed by one surgeon for optic neuropathy in Graves' eye disease. The records of 21 patients (33 orbits) undergoing extracranial orbital decompression for Graves' optic neuropathy were analysed for changes in visual acuity and colour vision and reduction in proptosis. Visua

The study examines the effect of discontinuing alprazolam in panic disorder+agoraphobia patients. Fifty-seven alprazolam and 50 placebo agoraphobia+panic disorder patients, who had participated in an 8 week double- blind controlled study of alprazolam at average doses of 5 mg daily, were withdrawn gradually from their medication over the subsequent 8 weeks. The effects of discontinuation of medication on anxiety, panic, depression, phobia and withdrawal symptoms were examined during the taper phase and over the following 6 months. Alprazolam patients deteriorated on anxiety, panics, Hamilton d

INTRODUCTION: Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is a prevalent subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) affecting predominantly elderly individuals.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 68-year-old man with a history of hypertension, hyperlipidaemia and a small pituitary gland tumour presented with sudden-onset binocular diplopia and right-eye blurry vision. A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain revealed enhancing soft tissue in the right superolateral orbit inseparable from the lacrimal gland, extending medially to the right superior rectus muscle and soft tissue. Further scanning showed widesprea
