Cerebral/cortical visual impairment (CVI) is a visual disorder often associated with perinatal hypoxic injury. The pathophysiology of CVI is poorly understood in part because of the lack of an animal model. Here we developed a murine model of CVI from existing rodent early postnatal hypoxia models for periventricular leukomalacia. Exposure to hypoxia during the equivalent to the human third trimester did not perturb gross motor function but caused severe impairments in binocular depth perception and visual acuity measured with behavioral assays. Impaired vision was associated with normal retin

BACKGROUND: Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have higher rates of visual disorders, such as amblyopia and strabismus, but the impact of these disorders on autism symptoms is unknown. We assessed adaptive, social, and repetitive behaviors in children with ASD with and without binocular vision disorders (amblyopia and strabismus).
METHODS: Children aged 3-17 years were categorized into one of two groups: ASD with comorbid amblyopia or strabismus (ASD+/BVD+) or ASD without a visual disorder (ASD+/BVD-). All participants underwent a complete ophthalmologic examination to inform group

Binocular summation enhances visual performance. This enhancement may be disrupted in visual conditions that introduce interocular asymmetries, e.g., glaucoma. Reaction times provide a direct index of visual processing efficiency. However, they have not been studied systematically under binocular conditions in glaucoma. This investigation quantified monocular and binocular saccadic reaction times (RTs) across the visual field using eye-movement perimetry (EMP), compared binocular summation between healthy and glaucoma participants and evaluated correspondence with computational models. Saccadi

BACKGROUND: Gaps often exist between a therapy's performance in a controlled research setting and outcomes in routine clinical practice. A prescription binocular treatment delivered via head-mounted display has demonstrated efficacy for improving visual acuity in children with amblyopia in a pivotal randomized controlled trial (RCT). A retrospective patient registry has been established to collect real-world data on the treatment.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the real-world effectiveness of this treatment by benchmarking outcomes from a patient registry against those from the RCT.
METHODS: A retro

BACKGROUND: Moderate and high hyperopia is a common clinical refractive error that severely affects distant and near visual functions. Traditional correction relies on high-power positive spherical lenses, which are prone to problems such as thick lens thickness, heavy weight, poor wearing comfort, and limited visual correction effect, resulting in low wearing compliance and reduced life quality of patients. Existing telescopic correction devices have the defects of large volume and narrow imaging field of view, which cannot meet the needs of daily clinical correction. This study aims to const

BACKGROUND: Occlusion therapy for severe amblyopia is challenging because of low visual function of the unoccluded eye and lengthy duration of daily therapy, which may then be hindered by low adherence. This study evaluates real-world effectiveness of a binocular digital treatment in patients with severe amblyopia.
METHODS: The records of children <18 years with best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) of 20/100 or worse in their amblyopic eye who were prescribed Luminopia in the PUPiL Registry were retrospectively analyzed. The treatment utilizes contrast reduction and dichoptic masking overlayed

BACKGROUND: Oculomotor function is a sensitive marker of neurological impairment, and smooth pursuit deficits have been reported across multiple neurological disorders. However, the oculomotor deficits following traumatic brain injury (TBI) remain incompletely characterized, particularly in relation to current functional status during rehabilitation.
METHODS: In this study, we employed a bedside, head-free eye-tracking paradigm based on short, repeated linear tracking segments, to assess oculomotor dysfunction in 30 TBI patients undergoing inpatient rehabilitation and 30 age-matched controls.

PURPOSE: Amblyopia is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by monocular deficits and interocular suppression. Binocular rivalry, where perception alternates between dissimilar images, is a powerful tool to probe this suppression. However, the dynamics of sustained binocular rivalry remain poorly characterized in amblyopia. This study aimed to comprehensively characterize these dynamics in individuals with amblyopia compared to visually-normal controls.
METHODS: Eleven adults with amblyopia and eight controls continuously reported their perception during a binocular rivalry task through
