Stereopsis Assessment in a Pediatric Population and Its Association With Refractive Error: A Cross-Sectional Study.

INTRODUCTION: Stereopsis is the perception of depth arising from binocular vision and is essential for fine motor skills and overall visual function in children. It has been observed that refractive errors diminish binocular function by causing visual blur and impairing fusion, which results in poor stereopsis. Poor stereoacuity can lead to inferior quality of vision and substandard work performance, especially where good eye-hand coordination and visual motor skills are required. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to assess the level of stereoacuity among children with refractive errors a

A virtual approach: Systematic review and meta-analysis of virtual reality-based therapies for convergence insufficiency.

Convergence insufficiency (CI) is a common binocular vision disorder that significantly impacts visual comfort and quality of life. It has been hypothesized that CI therapy can also be provided effectively with Virtual reality (VR). Recently, a few studies were conducted on virtual reality-based CI therapy. However, to the best of the authors' knowledge, no systematic review and meta-analysis has been performed on the effectiveness of VR-based CI therapy. Therefore, this study aims to fill this critical gap and investigate the effectiveness of VR-based CI therapy. Consequently, it may be helpf

Validation of Angular Indication Measurement (AIM) Stereoacuity.

BACKGROUND: Stereopsis is a critical visual function, however clinical stereotests are time-consuming, coarse in resolution, suffer low test-retest repeatability, and poor agreement with other tests. We developed AIM Stereoacuity to address these limitations and asked whether it could deliver reliable, efficient, and precise stereo-thresholds across stimulus types and disparity signs. METHODS: Observers reported the orientation of 5×1.25° bar defined by disparity of random dots embedded in a 6° diameter circular cell, presented in a 4*4 grid. Bar disparity was scaled from ± 2σ relative to a t

Moderate Impairment in Binocular Contrast Sensitivity Predicts Faster Mobility Decline in Cognitively Unimpaired Older Adults.

BACKGROUND: Impaired contrast sensitivity (CS) commonly occurs in older adults but has been largely overlooked as a contributing factor to functional impairment and decline. We examined if CS impairment predicts decline in performance on the expanded short physical performance battery (eSPPB) over 30 months of follow-up in cognitively healthy older adults. METHODS: Single center prospective cohort study of 192 cognitively unimpaired older adults with good visual acuity and self-reported visual function. Linear mixed models examined the difference in the association of moderately impaired base
