A series of 238 consecutive patients with acoustic neuromas, operated on in Paris has been studied to identify unusual presentations and varied symptomatology. The most common history was that of a progressive unilateral hearing loss (in 68.1%), with tinnitus (in 49.1%) or disequilibrium (in 49.1%) or both. Sudden hearing loss (in 14.7%) or fluctuating hearing loss (in 6.3%), and a single or repeated episodes of acute vertigo (in 8.8%) were seen less commonly. We examined two women who had keratic precipitates, minimal intracameral cells and flare, diffuse iris stromal atrophy, posterior subcapsular cataract, and vitreous opacities in their left eyes. No ocular pain, photophobia, or posterior synechia was noted. Their right irises appeared brown. Heterochromia was evident in both patients. Recurrent subconjunctival hemorrhages were also in their affected left eyes. It is possible that subconjunctival hemorrhages in our patients may be associated with Fuchs' heterochromic iridocyclitis.

The signs and symptoms of an acute retrobulbar hemorrhage include sudden ocular pain, explosive unilateral proptosis, limitation of extraocular movements and loss of vision. Retrobulbar hemorrhage is a well-described complication of retrobulbar anesthetic injection. We report an unusual case of a presumed acute retrobulbar hemorrhage following intraocular surgery which, on further testing, was found to be a delayed suprachoroidal hemorrhage.

We reviewed the charts of 21 patients who underwent penetrating keratoplasty and transscleral fixation of a posterior chamber lens. One lens was sutured in an aphakic eye and 20 lenses were sutured after removal of an anterior chamber lens. Postoperative follow-up averaged 13 months (2-39 months). A-46-year-old woman with a prior history of a spontaneously resolving right central retinal artery occlusion presented with an acute right third order Horner's syndrome and vague ocular pain. Magnetic resonance angiography demonstrated a right internal carotid artery dissection. The dissection improved on anticoagulation therapy. Marfans syndrome or Ehlers-Danlos syndrome was suspected but ruled out by clinical criteria and skin biopsy respectively.

We retrospectively examined 52 patients (60 eyes) with episcleritis and scleritis. Their mean ages were 57 and 47 years, respectively. Slight female predominance was noted. We treated three patients who had intraepithelial neoplasia involving the visual axis and a subsequent decrease of visual acuity with topical mitomycin C 0.02% four times daily for ten to 22 days.
