Focally deficient bilateral lateral mastoid walls: an unusual anatomical variation-a case report.

INTRODUCTION: The temporal bone represents the most intricate bony structure within the human body, which consequently renders its radiological assessment similarly complex. Advances in imaging technology provide enhanced insight into the anatomy of the temporal bone, alongside an understanding of the structural variations that may resemble pathological conditions. CASE REPORT: This report presents the case of a 33-year-old male patient who exhibited symptoms consistent with right-sided chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) persisting for two years. In addition to demonstrating the characte

A Deep Learning-based Method for Detection of Severity Stages of Otitis Media by Otoscopic Images.

Otitis Media (OM) is a common and potentially serious middle-ear disorder that mostly affects youngsters. Timely and correct OM diagnosis is critical for successful intervention. Often, it is caused by mucosal disorders that affect tympanic membranes. Otitis Media causes effusion, perforation and retraction also in tympanic membrane. This study investigates the use of deep learning techniques on photographs of the tympanic membrane (TM) to detect OM precisely. The dataset was gathered and approved under supervision of a medical expert at AIIMS Raipur, is divided into four categories: acute oti

Sigmoid and Transverse Sinus Thrombosis as a Complication of Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media in a Child: A Case Report and Review of Literature.

Chronic suppurative otitis media is an easily managed condition with potential for severe sinus thrombophlebitis complications secondary to cholesteatoma, if not diagnosed and treated promptly. Diagnosis relies on the culture and sensitivity of the drained suppuration, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Treatment entails a combination of all or some surgical, antibiotic, and anticoagulant use with postoperative follow-up. Our 8-year-old female patient presented with chronic left postauricular swelling with foul-smelling otorrhea and associated otalgia. More recentl

The relationship between otitis media and gastroesophageal reflux disease: A 2-sample Mendelian randomization analysis.

Existing research suggests a potential link between gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and Otitis media (OM). Nevertheless, the specifics of this correlation are not clearly defined. In order to explore the genetic link between GERD and OM, this study engaged a 2-sample Mendelian randomization methodology. Initial steps comprised careful selection of instrumental variables, namely the single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), following strict quality control guidelines. The selected SNPs underwent MR analyses involving inverse variance weighting, MR-Egger, weighted median, and simple mode. H

Associations between gastroesophageal reflux disease and otolaryngological diseases.

In this study, we conducted a 2-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to explore the relationship between gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and 16 common otolaryngological diseases. Single-nucleotide polymorphisms that are strongly associated with GERD were used as instrumental variables. The primary estimation of the causal effect utilized the inverse variance weighting method, supplemented by MR Egger, weighted median, simple mode, and weighted mode as alternative methods for estimating the causal effect. Then, sensitivity analyses, including heterogeneity, pleiotropy, and leave-

Has_circRNA_0122683 (circ-PRKCI) relieves ferroptosis of HPAEpiCs in sepsis-induced acute lung injury by sponging miR-382-5p.

Circular ribonucleic acid (RNA) protein kinase C iota (circ-PRKCI, hsa_circRNA_0122683) has been previously reported to be involved in the development of sepsis. However, the knowledge regarding the potential role and mechanism of circ-PRKCI in sepsis-induced acute lung injury (ALI) is unclear. An in vitro cellular model of sepsis-ALI was simulated by the treatment of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in human pulmonary alveolar epithelial cells (HPAEpiCs). The expression of circ-PRKCI in plasma samples from sepsis patients with or without ALI as well as sepsis-ALI cell model was determined by quantita

Evaluation of the safety of 1% voriconazole ear drops for the treatment of tympanic membrane perforation-associated suppurative otomycosis.

Otomycosis is a common otolaryngologic condition commonly complicated by tympanic membrane perforation (TMP). Although topical voriconazole has been found effective in TMP-free otomycosis, data on its safety in TMP-associated otomycosis are limited. This study was conducted to determine the safety profile of 1% ear drops of voriconazole in a rabbit model of TMP-associated suppurative otomycosis due to a clinical isolate of Aspergillus terreus. The local preparation was applied three times daily for seven consecutive days. Therapeutic efficacy was assessed by otoendoscopy, while safety was esta
