BACKGROUND: Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP) is frequently associated with otologic symptoms because of Eustachian tube dysfunction. However, the clinical relevance of otologic symptoms in patients with CRSwNP and their response to biologic therapy remains poorly characterized.
OBJECTIVE: To investigate baseline determinants of ear-related symptoms and evaluate the impact of dupilumab treatment.
METHODS: This post-hoc analysis of the Dupilumab In Severe Asthma (DISA) study included 23 adults with CRSwNP and severe uncontrolled asthma. Participants underwent a 12-week trea

Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) is predominantly associated with type 2 inflammation, although the inflammatory profile may involve both eosinophils and mast cells. Middle ear disease in CRSwNP is usually attributed to Eustachian tube dysfunction, but inflammatory involvement of the middle ear may also occur. We report the cytological evaluation of middle ear effusion from a patient with CRSwNP. May-Grünwald-Giemsa staining revealed eosinophils, mast cells, and extracellular granules consistent with degranulation. The simultaneous presence of these cellular components suggest

PURPOSE: This study aims to assess, for the first time, the efficacy and safety of Tezepelumab in managing ear, nose, and throat manifestations and improving quality of life in asthma patients treated in a real-world setting. Chronic rhinosinusitis is a heterogeneous condition, characterized by various phenotypes that often coexist with comorbidities. While the standard treatment is commonly applied to chronic rhinosinusitis, a significant number of patients do not respond adequately to medical management and experience frequent relapses of nasal polyps. Current biologic therapies primarily ta

OBJECTIVE: Otitis media with effusion (OME) is frequently observed in patients with severe Chronic Rhinosinusitis with Nasal Polyps (CRSwNP)-yet it remains underrecognized. Both conditions are debilitating and may share type 2 inflammatory mechanisms. This study investigates the prevalence of OME (measured by tympanometry) in patients with CRSwNP and evaluates the effect of biologic treatment with mepolizumab, with or without combined FESS, on hearing outcomes as well as otologic symptoms.
METHODS: Secondary analysis of a randomized controlled trial (RCT) (n = 58) comparing FESS and mepolizum

BACKGROUND: Aural cholesteatoma (tympanokeratoma) is a destructive epidermoid cyst arising within the temporal bone. In veterinary medicine, it is a historically rare and challenging entity. In recent years, reports of cases in animals have increased, and there is a trend towards minimally invasive approaches that appear promising for better outcomes.
HYPOTHESIS/OBJECTIVES: Our objective was to assimilate prior and new knowledge of cholesteatoma epidemiology, aetiology and clinical management in animals. We utilised this information to propose a staging scheme and basic treatment principles f

Eosinophilic otitis media (EOM) is a rare, treatment-resistant middle ear condition characterised by eosinophilic secretions and a risk of irreversible hearing loss. The condition is often seen in patients with asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) and is driven by type-2 inflammation. We describe two patients in this case with severe EOM and concomitant asthma and CRSwNP, in whom conventional treatment had limited efficacy. Treatment with the IL-5 inhibitor mepolizumab resulted in marked improvement in ear symptoms, improved hearing, and reduced need for systemic steroi

Although it is a relatively common occurrence in the genitourinary and gastrointestinal region, and on the skin, fibroepithelial polyp (FEP) is extremely rare in the nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, and nasopharynx. Today, FEP is considered an atypical form of hamartoma. Here, we report the first case in the international literature of a 45-year-old male patient in whom FEP arose from the middle turbinate. The diagnosis of FEP was established after a detailed clinical, pathohistological, and immunohistochemical analysis. We also performed a literature review of English-language literature, in

OBJECTIVE: Eosinophilic otitis media (EOM) is recognized as a type 2 inflammatory airway disease closely associated with bronchial asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP). Although peripheral blood eosinophils are established biomarkers of type 2 inflammation, their clinical significance in EOM remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic utility of peripheral blood eosinophil counts in EOM in relation to current diagnostic criteria.
METHODS: This retrospective study included 64 patients with EOM and 69 patients with chronic perforated otitis media (COM) w

BackgroundEosinophilic otitis media (EOM) is a refractory type 2 inflammatory disease of the middle ear, frequently associated with asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP). Conventional otologic treatments often provide incomplete or transient benefit. Because EOM and CRSwNP may share a type 2 inflammatory pathway involving the nasal, Eustachian tube, and middle-ear compartments, biologic therapy may offer benefit beyond sinonasal disease control. Long-term multicenter real-world data on dupilumab in patients with concomitant EOM and severe CRSwNP remain limited.ObjectiveT
