Case Report of Severe Chlamydia psittaci Pneumonia Treated with Omadacycline.

The clinical severity of Chlamydia psittaci infection ranges from asymptomatic to severe pneumonia. Diagnosis poses challenges due to its similarity to other respiratory infections. Treatment includes tetracyclines, macrolides, and fluoroquinolones, with limited evidence on the efficacy of omadacycline. We report a case of an 86-year-old male with severe psittacosis treated with omadacycline, resulting in significant improvement. This highlights the necessity for further research on omadacycline's role in psittacosis treatment.

Chlamydia psittaci infection induces IFN-I and IL-1β through the cGAS-STING-IRF3/NLRP3 pathway via mitochondrial oxidative stress in human macrophages.

Chlamydia psittaci (C. psittaci) is a multi-host pathogen that elicits robust innate immune responses in macrophages. Chlamydiae target host mitochondria to manipulate the cellular fate and metabolic functions. However, the effect of C. psittaci on the host mitochondria remains obscure. This study investigated how C. psittaci, post-infection in human macrophages, induces mitochondrial oxidative stress and damage to activate the cGAS-STING-IRF3/NLRP3 pathway for IFN-I and IL-1β production. Results demonstrate that C. psittaci increased mitochondrial ROS (mtROS) production. This induced the rele

Application of nanopore adaptive sequencing in pathogen detection of a patient with Chlamydia psittaci infection.

INTRODUCTION: Nanopore sequencing has been widely used in clinical metagenomic sequencing for pathogen detection with high portability and real-time sequencing. Oxford Nanopore Technologies has recently launched an adaptive sequencing function, which can enrich on-target reads through real-time alignment and eject uninteresting reads by reversing the voltage across the nanopore. Here we evaluated the utility of adaptive sequencing in clinical pathogen detection. METHODS: Nanopore adaptive sequencing and standard sequencing was performed on a same flow cell with a bronchoalveolar lavage fluid

Case Report: A case of Chlamydia psittaci infection in an HIV patient.

Chlamydia psittaci is the pathogen of psittacosis and infects a wide range of birds and even humans. Human infection occurs most commonly in those with a history of contact with birds or poultry. We describe a case of psittacosis in a human immunodeficiency virus infected patient in Zhejiang Province for the first time. C. psittaci infection was confirmed by nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and Real-Time PCR. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the sequences from the patient's samples clustered with genotype A in the same branch. Our study highlights the possibility of diagnosing psittac

Development of a Lateral Flow Strip-Based Recombinase-Aided Amplification for Active Chlamydia psittaci Infection.

Chlamydia psittaci is the causative agent of psittacosis, a worldwide zoonotic disease. A rapid, specific, and sensitive diagnostic assay would be benefit for C. psittaci infection control. In this study, an assay combining recombinase-aided amplification and a lateral flow strip (RAA-LF) for the detection of active C. psittaci infection was developed. The RAA-LF assay targeted the CPSIT_RS02830 gene of C. psittaci and could be accomplished in 15 min at a single temperature (39°C). The analytical sensitivity of the assay was as low as 1 × 100 copies/μl and no cross-reaction with some other int
